Well, folks, we’re all gonna die. But big deal. I’m so fucking macho, I laugh at death! Here, let me prove it to you. Come here, death, right up to my face! See, everybody. How I look directly into this face, this face of death! Now watch. Watch as I spit, spit directly into this face. Ptoo! (spits) See that? So who cares!? Not convinced? Then watch and I’ll show you. See the face of death that I’m holding and facing? Watch as I laugh in its face, laugh directly in its face. HA! Hahahahahaha! See? Told you. Doing it, Tron style Well, that is the way it comes across: “Apocalypse? Let me show you how tough I am.” Not, “What can we do about it, to stop it?” So, dear listeners, are you able to make out the distress beneath such pronouncements? Granted, this bravado is worthless as to either reversing apocalypse or even showing some sort of inspired vision in which it can be made acceptable or noble if not avoidable. For those who do not see it yet, in this chapter I try a little fantasy dialogue to bring out what I think is going on, much of the time, and keeping us from acting rationally about this imminent emergency of all dire emergencies possible. Mott’s (1960, 1964) major contribution lies in his focusing on basic patterns of mind and cosmos that correlate with prenatal feelings and states. He traced consciousness back to events around conception and saw these events as instituting patterns affecting all later experience and conceptual constructions. INTRODUCTION Page 18 Sexual and Pleasure Repression Hugely important amid the thought-and-emotion control was that of sexual behavior. Religion and the Controllers embraced the notion that even sexuality was a source of uninhibited expression of emotion, outside the control of the elite, so sexuality became demonized ... at least for the lowly. Sexuality was both a reminder of our erstwhile belongingness in Nature as well as it was a powerful source of potential defiance, thus requiring repression. The quality of life of the dominated, including love, was more than just not important to the Controllers, which was true. On a level so fundamental it could not even be seen, the personal feelings, motivations, and individual ends of those lower in status got in the way of the ends the Controllers had in mind. Human feeling, intention, and choice were thought to be arenas designated only for them. Those who controlled deemed themselves risen to the heavens, at times thinking they were gods, at times demanding they be thought of that way. In this scheme, the subdued and the server classes were viewed as no more than props in the dramas the elite would concoct. They were not more important, often even less so, than the planetmates who had earlier been enslaved, similarly to be used at will by humanity.

This “vegetable” eruption always happens suddenly and climactically, and almost always it results in death. Scenes like this I have observed in the movie “Jacob’s Ladder,” several times on the hit show The X Files, and in many, many other shows. Gag Me With a Toxin. This version of suffocation probably has its roots in the force- feeding of toxic elements to the fetus in the womb through the umbilical cord, and is more definitely related — the symbol is probably an amalgamation of both feelings — to the ungentle clearing of fluids from the neonate’s mouth by the attendants immediately after birth. This latter connection — the ungentle mouth cleaning of birth fluids — I can personally validate through my own primal experiences. We have climate deniers now, who are going around saying we have no problem with global warming. No, they say, that is all a story by some bad folks who just want to control us. Donald Trump has currently become the epitome of this twisted thinking. To which I think, seriously, how convenient. How convenient to proclaim there is not a problem when the dilemma if faced would seem hopeless. How easy, then, to scratch away, rummaging for snippets, misconstructions of facts, words taken out of context, and the delusionary fabrications of others doing the same to concoct a conspiracy that would get oneself, and one’s conscience, off the hook. More than that, which would rationalize our current tendencies, wrought of our flawed upbringings, to brutalize and rape the Earth, extracting all we can for our own benefit, consequences be damned. Is it not obvious these folks are engaging in desperate wish fulfillment?

It’s okay to laugh here, that was meant to be snark. “Love is all you need” turned into “Money is good!” Yuppies were portrayed in film. One in particular that sought to delineate the attitudes of this character type was the movie, Wall Street, in which Charlie Sheen plays the role of the Yuppie, mentored by the Fifties Generation character, Gekko, played by Michael Douglas. Together they give a portrayal of complete self-centeredness and insensitivity to the ways their Machiavellian strategies harm others or the environment.

“WE AIN’T BORN TYPICAL” Page 53 …sanctioning as it does the status quo, requiring no change (but allowing for no improvement, either), that is repeated endlessly. Put another way, Winnicott is touted as an important figure in the history of child development because he went along with what parents and professionals wanted to believe about child-rearing/parenting (including their own of both) and did not make waves. Since this book asserts that we need radical changes in prenatal, birth, and child-caring/parenting to bring about the access to the deeper human nature required for the survival of Earth’s life, his concession is important and represents a stumbling block, to the extent that it is still bandied about by child development professionals. Further, he rationalized that birth was a good thing, if done correctly, in contributing to ego strength. And he rationalized that the true self could be helped by the false self. People who want to “make nice” like this in the midst of contrasting theories and views are often highly regarded. In his defense, he could only be the product of his times; indeed, in the ways mentioned above, for example, the true and false selves and his views on therapy, he challenged some prevailing notions.

Risking It All At any rate, the ensuing plot in Joe Versus the Volcano has provocative elements containing cornucopias of meaning. It shows Joe having to decide whether to sacrifice his newly won relationship with his anima ally — that is to say, the heroine, Patricia — for the benefit of an entire — but anonymous — community. This demonstrates that at a progressed level of the spiritual process — that having to do with one’s inter-connection with the larger community of living things, not just one’s personal unconscious — one must risk even one’s newly regained creativity, inner child playfulness, and personal feelings, that is to say, one’s anima. One might even lose one’s confidence, doubt oneself, question oneself, lose one’s self-esteem ... all one’s good “therapy” is threatened ... all the gains one made at earlier, egoic levels, where one gained pride and self-confidence are put at risk. All that one thought one gained in becoming the adult one is might be lost. The better, more integrated Ego, proud even of its gains of self as in incorporating the anima, is more than at risk; it must be let go of. No, in this greater task one will risk suffering again ... and on a deeper level and in a more profound way ... but there is the very real promise that it will at least be more meaningful and more transformative. Now, think about humans’ mother-infant interaction. Compare the two. When we observe human mothering, let us say the mother is breast or bottle feeding her child, you might see the mother and baby looking deeply and for prolonged periods into each other’s faces. 1. CREATING WORLDS Page 5 …particular set of stimuli is “objectively” neutral until “interpreted” by an organism relative to its physiological makeup, its species. This, of course, makes perfect sense. There is nothing inherently painful in a stimulus that is produced by something whose molecules are moving at such a speed and manner that one would measure its temperature at, say, two hundred degrees Fahrenheit. That degree of heat is not “objectively” painful. It would be painful to us, to humans, however. Yet, one could easily imagine a species for which that particular vibrational rate would be within its tolerance range. The quality of pain ... the very existence of pain, even ... is relative to the perceiving organism, its species. It is determined by the species physiology, and in humans this determination is made for us during the journey of the neural firing through interior areas of the brain, far out of our conscious awareness. Let us take a more subtle example. There is nothing inherently comforting or even pleasurable in a caress — that is, the pattern of stimuli involving the moving of one particular organism’s surface against another’s, in a particular way. Those “particulars,” along with other aspects, are what go into defining caress by means of a complex communication among billions of neural cells and their components inside the brain.

Then, because of the inefficiency of the blood flow in bringing nutrients to the fetus, which includes, most importantly of all, oxygen; it is characterized by feelings of suffocation along with the cramped feelings. Next, because the reduced blood flow means the toxic byproducts of food conversion will not be removed as efficiently, we routinely experience feelings of being force-fed toxins, waste matter, and “poisons.” This is accompanied by feelings of nausea, sickness, and — because it seems to come from all around and yet from nowhere in particular — paranoia, the sense of a dire threat which can come from anywhere at any time and is directed in particular at oneself. Finally, also consequent to this buildup of toxins in the amniotic surround is a feeling of burning or irritation on the surface of the skin. These feelings are the basis of the human evil of all times, and I call them the prenatal matrices of human evil, or the PMEs. Comprising, as they do, the greatest amount of the trauma and pain of our early lives, they are pretty much congruent with what I call the pain grids.

As Maslow emphasized, if one has a strong ability to do something, one has a powerful motivation to do that thing; and one’s rewards for doing that, not something else, are overflowing. Character is not destiny as much as ability is. This is a central point in this endeavor of who to be. Hence, this new and expansive take on Identity, as presented in this work, is related not just to “who one is” or simply “being myself,” it is related to one’s inmost potentials, talents, and proclivities. It is related to this new child-caring emerging out of the Sixties and throughout the world embracing these radical new parenting notions of “I just want you to be happy.” “I will love you regardless of what you choose.” And simply supporting the young in being “who they are.” Interestingly this can be compared to the traditional goal of education, whose root words indicate it is about “bringing out what is inside.” Secondly, one needs to look at how these choices of who to be are differently configured at the various stages of life and in relation to its multitudinous exigencies. For indeed these requirements change as one traverses the stations of the life cycle and as one encounters distinctive life events, such as unexpected deaths and divorces, tragedies and the calamities that befall one, fickle fame and unforeseen fortune, and so on. This book addresses that as well.
