Orchard #orbweaver - Leucauge venusta

An orchard orbweaver (Leucauge venusta) climbing a length of web from the bottom left to the top right of frame. They’re dangling from their web so we mostly see their yellow, black, and green pattern on the ventral side of their abdomen.

For #Arachtober, a large wolf spider freshly relocated from our front hall into the garden. The cats may be disappointed but the spider will be much happier outside I think!

A robust dark brown spider with a pale stripe down its back, sitting in a light blue cardboard box.The same spider, much less visible in its native habitat of leaf litter and woody debris.

A candy-striped spider (Enoplognatha ovata) which has set up shop on an ox-eye daisy and has already had one not so happy customer in a visiting hoverfly 🌱🕷️

I saw this female Bold Jumping Spider with a fly as prey, on the exterior of a building today, #Arachtober 7th. Kansas Wetlands Education Center, near Great Bend, Kansas, USA. #bugsky, #bugwatching #spiders #arachnids

Compact, hairy black spider with white spot on abdomen, and iridescent green jaws, feeding on a fly with large red eyes. On the exterior of a building.

"Fierce"
This large (huge, to my arachnophobic eyes!) Fierce Orb-weaver seems to have chosen the outside (and, in one occurrence, INside!) of my house for its habitat. Strange, as it is supposed to favor conifer forests!

Photo of a pretty large spider clinging to a broken wooden stick. The spider's body is dark-colored and hairy. Abdomen very large, with two distinct "bumps" on the upper side. Background of blurry vegetation. Watermark identifying photographer as Geneviève Laurin.

No idea what kind of spider this is, but it's about ¼ in./0.635 cm in size 🕷

#Arachtober #Spider I'm unsure of the ID but might be a Bark or Ground Crab Spider

Might be a type of Crab spider .

Apologies for the blur - I snapped this in a wine cellar while I was stomping grapes! #Arachtober #Spider #ColorADay #RedWed #Porto #31DaysofHalloween

The story of this mite is a bit similar to our own follicle mites, most demodecids sharing similar life history, broad morphological trends, but it can become quite a pain in the *ss for dogs with weakened immune system.

What time is it? It’s #Cheliceratime & #Arachtober !
And this time we're looking at a companion of dogs, Demodex canis!

All the basic infos are here but if you want to learn more, there’s more in the thread below!⬇️🧵

#mite #arachnid #demodex #arthropod #sciart #bugsky #invert

Just like humans have their own follicle mites, this species completes its entire lifecycle thanks to dogs’ skin. On a dog with a weaken immune system, this mite can cause demodicosis.

Size: roughly 200µm of body length
Time period: Holocene (present day)
Conservation status: Least concern/Near threatened

The animal drawn looks like a worm with 8 stuby legs at the front

For #arachtober: my favorite of the fishing #spiders
Six-spotted fishing #spider - Dolomedes triton
(Shot near Cincinnati 4-24-24) 🕸️🕷️ #photography #macrophotography #wildlifephotography #wildlife #nature #animal #invertebrate #arachnid #spidersky #ento

A six-spotted fishing spider (Dolomedes triton) anchored to an aquatic plant at their abdomen and back legs as they stretch their front legs out over the murky, still surface of a vernal pool to look for food. Their head and front legs are pointed toward the bottom right of the frame. Their abdomen and back legs are in shadow while their front legs and cephalothorax are in the light.

As promised, here's another fishing spider for #Arachtober, the Dark Fishing Spider (Dolomedes tenebrosus). This is one of our largest spiders as well, this specimen being about the size of an adult human hand.

#Arachtober 7: back in April I found a whole bunch of mesostigs just chilling with a rove beetle under a log.

Probably Parasitidae or something like that. Contrary to their name these mites are mostly soil-dwelling predators, like the ones in these photos. I […]

About ten oblong or oval golden-brown mites, as well as a larger glossy dark brown elongated-teardrop-shaped critter with very short golden-brown elytra, on the grimy underside of a log.Close-up with one of the mites almost in focus, showing its longer, thin, antenna-like first pair of legs and its short, curved, almost claw-like second pair of legs. The smooth dorsal shield seems undivided.Another group of mites near the first one; no doubt a nymphal stage. They are rounded and simpler-looking, with legs peeking out from underneath.
