What time is it? It’s #Cheliceratime & #Arachtober !
And this time we're looking at a companion of dogs, Demodex canis!

All the basic infos are here but if you want to learn more, there’s more in the thread below!⬇️🧵

#mite #arachnid #demodex #arthropod #sciart #bugsky #invert

1/3

Just like humans have their own follicle mites, this species completes its entire lifecycle thanks to dogs’ skin. On a dog with a weaken immune system, this mite can cause demodicosis.

Size: roughly 200µm of body length
Time period: Holocene (present day)
Conservation status: Least concern/Near threatened

The animal drawn looks like a worm with 8 stuby legs at the front

A reminder from nature to pause, breathe, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us while seeking a perfect balance in life... like this gorgeous male Southern Hawker! 💙🫶📷

Happy Monday everyone. Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead. 🕊️🌿

#MacroMonday #Nature #Invert #Dragonflies #UKWildlife #ECK

A close-up photograph of a vibrant male Southern Hawker dragonfly (Aeshna cyanea) resting vertically on a stalk of purple toadflax flowers.
The dragonfly is positioned head-up, with his long, segmented abdomen extending straight down the flower stem. His thorax is a bright apple-green color, accented by two prominent yellow-green oval patches on top. His abdomen features a pattern of dark brown, black, and bright green spots, transitioning into vivid blue segments at the very tip of his tail. The Southern Hawker has large, shiny compound eyes separated by a bright golden patch on the top of his head. Four translucent, glassy wings are spread fully open and flat to the sides, revealing an incredibly dense, delicate, dark-veined net pattern across their entire surface. The background is completely out of focus, filled with a soft, bright green and yellow bokeh effect created by sunlight filtering through garden foliage.

Many beige coloured dead stalks, some with wet clustered seeds at the end. There is a similar coloured tiny snail on one of the stalks. It's shell is warm brown and its eye stalks are dark grey.

So this bug was walking around on the mat outside, so I crouched down to take a picture (it's a BIG bug) and then it assumed defense position thinking I was going to attack it!

Ligus has some stunning #fish, #invert and #lizard art available in her Kofi shop right now - some with a little change-of-light twist! 🐟🦎🐙 This fishy would be amazing to hang mounted on a door so that the angle changed and lit up the SHINY ✨

Good news #invert story of the week 🦋

After a catastrophic decline in numbers over recent years that placed Australia’s iconic Bogong moth on the IUCN Red List, their numbers have really surged this year!

Good morning. Our Ivy in the garden has just started to flower and yesterday it was covered in beautiful Ivy bees - it's wonderful to see them back! 💛 🐝 🌿

Happy Monday everyone... wishing you all a great new week ahead 👋

#MacroMonday #Bees #Photography #Nature #UKWildlife #Invert #ECK

A close up photograph of a Colletes hederae (Ivy bee) actively foraging on a cluster of Ivy flowers. She is seen in side profile with her body facing left and her head lowered toward the tiny flower florets as she feeds. The bee features a prominent, densely furry thorax covered in vibrant, light orange-brown and buff hairs. The bee's long abdomen extends to the right, showing a striking pattern of bright cream-yellow rings contrasting sharply with glossy dark brown/black segments. Bright yellow pollen is packed heavily onto her rear hind legs. The flower head beneath her forms a dense, rounded dome made up of dozens of tightly grouped, pale green flower buds. Several tiny, delicate stamens with yellowish tips protrude upward from the cluster. The background is blurred in shades of yellow and teal.

Today I saw a field full of beautiful Common Toadflax. Such an uplifting sight especially as I have never seen these gorgeous wildflowers before! The pollinators loved them too! 🫶📷💛🐝

A photograph of a vertical stalk of Common Toadflax flowers being visited by a hoverfly in mid-air coming in to land. The background blurred, soft-focus of the vibrant green grass. The plant features an upright green stem topped with a cluster of pale yellow flowers that heavily resemble snapdragons. Each blossom has an elongated, downward-pointing spur and a two-lipped opening highlighted by a bright, golden-orange centre. Several unopened green buds sit tightly clustered at the very peak of the stalk, while fully opened flowers flare out lower down. On the rightmost petal is a hoverfly captured mid-flight, its clear wings blurred from rapid motion with its legs just touching the petal. The insect features a black body with distinctive, bright yellow bands across its abdomen. It faces left, leaning its head directly into the orange throat of the blossom to gather nectar.
