A #damselfly from last weekend - Willow Emerald is a late-summer species so early October isn't unusual. This female was at the London Wetland Centre on a sunny day. #UKWildlife #invertebrates #odonata

A long, thin green insect sits on a dead leaf, sun-bathing. She is sat more or less vertical with her head at the top.

Pink-bellied Moth! (Oenochroma vinaria)
I found this magnificent creature in my garden last night. It was still stretching its wings, so I was able to get very close with my macro lens. Thank you for your patience, little friend!

Photo of a Pink-bellied Moth holding onto the end of a leaf. It does indeed have a pink belly, but also a pink face and pink legs with light and dark patches. Its eyes are dark brown, and its antennae are red with orange filaments.

Same subject from above focusing on the moth's wings. They are a darker shade of pink than the belly with stripes of red and orange and dark red/purple patches. Its colours are not unlike certain gum leaves, and would probably camouflage it well in leaf litter.

Same subject, cropped and focused on the moth's face. There is sufficient detail to make out the facets of its eyes, the top of its curved, pale-brown tongue, and the individual hairs on its face and antennae.

I love box crabs, probably because of the way their claws fit so neatly in with the carapace (and also, just look at it!). This is Calappa calappa, disturbed on a night dive in Lembeh and rapidly scuttling away from the bright lights.

A rounded crab with large claws that fit neatly into the space in front of its body. It is brown, with reddish spots on it; the claws have some lighter ridges on the lower parts and raised teeth on the upper parts. The crab is scuttling over black sand, although you can't see this in the photo because its legs are hidden. But trust me, it was *moving*

This large (huge, to my arachnophobic eyes!) Fierce Orb-weaver seems to have chosen the outside (and, in one occurrence, INside!) of my house for its habitat. Strange, as it is supposed to favor conifer forests!
