Fave line, fave scene, same difference, right? So what if it took three snippets to get the whole thing...

If you only want to read one, read the third one.

In the evening, they would walk around the small neighborhood or stargaze on the bookshop roof.

“Do you know a lot about stars?” Devlin asked one evening after Ki’in laid out a late dinner.

Ki’in shrugged. “What’s a lot? I know three systems of constellations and how to navigate, but I’m not terribly familiar with their composition or how they are classified. I can look it up, if you’re interested.”

Devlin laughed and accepted the wine they were holding out to him. He studied the cork a moment and then, with care more than hesitation, he slowly increased the pressure within the bottle the way Ki’in had showed him, removing the cork smoothly and without damage. He held it up with a triumphant flourish. “And no, that’s not necessary. I was just curious. We spend a lot of time up here, and the way you gaze upward makes me jealous.”

The blush Devlin seemed to love so much overtook Ki’in’s face as they shook their head. “It doesn’t,” they protested.“No,” Devlin admitted, “but it is with longing, and asking what you know about a subject usually provides a fairly reliable measure of your interest in it. The stars mean a great deal to you, don’t they?”

A sip of wine wasn’t enough, Ki’in drank half their glass before they could answer, and they still did so without looking up. “They don’t change. Not quickly. Not by years.” They shook their head with enough vigor to forestall a response. “It’s a bridge, the sky, to the past, to the future. I’m not alone, in their light, and from their planets, we’re among them, as one glimmer in the sky, the whole of our world together as a single—” They got up and walked to the edge of the roof, leaning over the low wall with a bowed head and shaking shoulders.

Devlin moved up behind them and wrapped his arms around their waist, pressing his face where their neck met their shoulder. “You are the most wonderful creature I’ve ever met. I don’t know how to believe you’re real, sometimes.”Ki’in laughed in a manner that was almost crying and turned into the shelter of his arms.

“Three systems of constellations?” Devlin asked after a moment, his tone bright and charming. “Is that all?”

“And how many do you know?”

Devlin pulled them into a long, expressive kiss. “Three, as long as I have my reference book with me,” he kissed Ki’in’s temple.

Ki’in bit his arm and pulled him back toward their dinner. “What did you do with all you time before you started harassing me?”

“Oh,” Devlin took in a deep breath as he settled back down, “got into a lot of trouble.”

“I believe that,” they grumbled, unable to hide their grin.

From a new scene I may use:

Teryl was speaking with the tree, speaking not in normal words, but in the chanting susurration consisting of Sheltri and another tongue, a tongue not even Rushak with all his talent could decipher. A tongue that could not be taught.

#FaveLineFriday I've been doing tons of editing, but chose from the one scene I actually wrote. I couldn't pick, so hear's my favorite part.
WARNING: may contain vague spoilers.

His hair wiped back from his face with a touch as gentle as the wind, those cool fingers, that scarred hand, - 1/2

“I’ll always love you.” Those words proven in a thousand ways.
He saw Rider’s outline against that bright purple light, the last way he’d proven those words.
Rider dressed in servant’s whites, kneeling on the floor of a room in this very palace.
Rider watching him eat what Rider had hunted and cooked, refusing to east himself.
Feeling Rider’s bones even through his jacked, his face pressed into that jacket, the smell of wet leather enveloping his senses.
His hair wiped back from his face with a touch as gentle as the wind, those cool fingers, that scarred hand, those deep brown eyes searching him, gentle, sad, infinitely caring.

Since Im in editing mode, I haven't added a whole bunch of cool lines. Here are two I liked:

"She moved like an animal."

"She had her hair cutely divided into two buns, one behind each ear."

(Yes, its about the same woman🥰🤣)

Bonus:
Jack has been to Paris. Possibly...

It looked suburban. Not a brilliant spot to be a monster. At least in the city there was the slight chance of being taken for some weirdo in a costume. Here there would be kids. People didn’t really like big green creatures around their kids.

I'm editing The Wolf Knight for Raven & Bear.

I love this part especially. It calls back to page one of my first story. It also references three werewolves from Arthurian Legend.

Sir Corbyn: 3500 miles
Ata c.100 miles

An excerpt from The Wolf Knight (Raven & Bear: 8) by Bramble. The fourth and final paragraph are highlighted in blue.

Transcript:
“Melion?”

“Ata, sorry, Princess Ata.” This young man bowed forward, a fist held over his heart, “I’m afraid my name is Marrok now.”

Neither spoke further as shields were raised in front of the princess and a firm hand dragged her back. Marrok was leaner, hair no longer rusted spikes but coils of polished copper. Ata felt a wooden block pressed tight around each wrist, heavy on a neck far frailer then. Drenched by rain, she shivered. Not yet dry despite years of warmth. His eyes lowered, heavy with regret.

Princess Ceindrych had finally stood, “he came to us, a wolf with no name and was given another to make him a man again.”

“You knighted him?” A bear-like rumble echoed in Ata’s chest.

“He’s an ordained paladin.” This diminutive girl held onto Marrok’s elbow and elaborated, “he saved me from the dog-head bandits and after months of study passed the Chivalric Measure.”

“If I may speak-”

“I’m not sure you may,” She cut him off with an ursine scowl, then sighed as the man flinched, “but I suppose if you need to.”

“I do.” That lake-blue stare wrinkled in careful consideration of each word before he spoke them, “I’m sorry. You have every right to hate me, but through God I am trying to be better.”

From the only actual writing I did this week, which was just dialogue from a new scene in my upcoming rewrite of ULB.

I think this encapsulates Lucian's and Orla's personalities well.

L: Has it occurred to you that you might have an easier time if you didn’t continuously make bad choices?
O: Has it occurred to you that you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about?
L: Not often.

Bonus: The furthest both Krainos and Xenon have been from home is Cryzmis!!! Cryzmis is deep in the northeast mountains, and their homeland, Eluria, is off the southwestern coast. #FaveLineFriday

"Goodbye, my love," the Bovien said.

Krainos smiled. "Until next year, my dear," he replied.

And Xenon was gone.

Krainos took a deep breath, waiting for the emptiness to settle in.

It never did.

#FaveLineFriday Not the most exciting, I admit, but I had a lot of fun describing clothes here—more than I usually do (which is not at all, typically). Helps that I went to the MET this week and just like. Was ~inspired~.

(Also, hello! I had a good time out! Thanks again for your patience, y'all!)

In the two weeks since St. Nadia, the dragons and the bees had made and given Eleanor clothing fit for a princess or a master mage: a sleeveless kaftan of deep blue velvet, embroidered with delicate flowers and tiny crystals along its hems; a dress of ivory silk, embroidered with gold flowers along the neckline and the cuffs of its bell sleeves; a leather belt around the waist of her dress, embossed with painted flowers along its edges; and closed-toe velvet slippers that matched her kaftan. As she walked, everything billowed—skirts, sleeves, edges of her kaftan—so she looked eternally like she was gliding as she walked, and that, combined with her tendency to keep her head held high, made her look absolutely divine.

By contrast, Mick had steadfastly refused the attire the dragons had offered him—trousers, military jacket, and cape made of deep crimson velvet that made him look like a king, an army general, or some kind of wanker, he couldn’t decide.

I have a few favourite scenes from this week, i really like what i wrote 😊

The first scene is between Kaitani and R’Otem-i
The second scene between L’Amen-a and Kai (Flyboy)
The third scene is between R’Otem-i, Aidenn Paradise, and Joanna Macleod

From: “To Save The Sun” Part VIII🪡

-“I’m sorry,” he said.

“There’s no reason to be,” I said, feeling my heart quicken. There really wasn’t any reason for it but—

-“I never wanted to hurt you. I still don’t.”
“The good news is, you haven’t hurt me. My brothers and Aidenn have been helping me sort my feelings. Hurt isn’t one of them.”

-“No?”

“No. The sting of rejection, yes; but you’ve been nothing but kind to me… and this time I got closure. Thank you.” I hugged him; he hugged back.

-“Good night, Uruëa,” he said softly.

“Rest well, R’Otem-i,” I said, equally softly.

We split apart, he heading down the corridor, and me entering my room.
I couldn’t say this was usual; a pang of sadness hit me, threatening to show on my face. I wasn’t able to celebrate with my brothers like I had last New Year. I missed them greatly.

—-“Who is on your mind?” That was Flyboy’s voice.

“Am I really so obvious?”

—-“It’s the staring at something too far to see.”

“I miss my brothers,” I said; “I would celebrate the New Year with them every year since we arrived at Earth.”

—-“I understand. I miss my Casca… I wonder daily what he is doing, what Sun-Drop is doing now that the war is over. I feel guilty that I’m not helping with the reconstruction too.”

I put my arms around him in a friendly hug. He didn’t return it, and I was reminded that he wasn’t very much into the physical touch that way between friends, so I let go.
“Sorry, Kai.”

—-“It’s alright. I am just not used to it.” He reserved hugs for his partner, and his brothers, nobody else as far as I could tell.
“I should have asked first.”

—-“Don’t be hard on yourself; we’re at a party, and I appreciate you were trying to help me feel better.” He was very matter-of-fact about it. There was a chance I would still feel some embarrassment until the end of the day.
—“You’re too positive this morning, Midshipman.” Macleod laughed before sipping her coffee.

“It could be worse, you could be the positive one, Lieutenant.”

She laughed harder. When the laughter died down she asked “when is their birthday?”

-“Twenty-third of Kara’Jun, which on the human calendar, at least in the year twenty-forty-two, lands on the second of March. So in a couple of days.”

—“When will it come around again.”

Having done the mental math already, I said “Eighteenth of January, twenty-forty-four.”

—“Oh my god! Scrap whatever plans you had, we need to make this big; huge, even!” Macleod said.

“Ma’am?”

—“If all goes according to plan, we’ll be home before their next birthday. Do you realise how crazy that is! We need to make this a really big party!”

-“Joanna, let’s compromise,” Paradise said, “from what I know about my friend and his brothers something less grand and more personal would be fitting, but you can come if you would like to.”

—“I can work with that… make sure L’Amen-a’s there.”

The light of a nearby lamp is not enough to illuminate her every feature, but my enhanced vision makes up for it, allowing me to behold my sister in the flesh. My gaze falls at once upon her pale throat, exposed thanks to the low collar of her sweater. I can almost taste the rich iron of her blood on my tongue.

"Does it hurt?"

Xenon shrugged with a snort. "Not as much as the person we helped would have."

Krainos squeezed Xenon's hand as he continued looking for every hint of... something. Of what? He hoped he'd know when he saw it. "That's not what I asked."

"Of course it hurts." #FaveLineFriday
