A WARNING FROM 2020: PEACE, PESTILENCE, AND A CALL TO REPENTANCE Long before 2020, Donald Trump was already speaking about becoming a peace negotiator between Israelis and Palestinians. The Guardian later published photographer William Coupon's account of a 1983 Manhattan Inc. photo shoot. The photograph shows Trump holding a white dove. Coupon explained that the accompanying article discussed Trump's desire to become a peace negotiator between Israelis and Palestinians, so they chose the dove to symbolize peace. That historical detail becomes particularly interesting when compared with what happened decades later. On January 28, 2020, Trump presented his Peace to Prosperity plan, proposing a two-state arrangement involving Israel and a future Palestinian state. Then, as 2020 unfolded, COVID-19 spread throughout the world, and on March 11 the World Health Organization characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic.

Bunkers Cannot Save You From the Lord The Old Testament says: Isaiah 2:19 KJV: “And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.” And again: Hosea 10:8 KJV: “Then they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.” Revelation uses strikingly similar language: Revelation 6:15-17 KJV: “And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men... hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb...” The biblical message is that wealth, power, technology, caves, and bunkers cannot ultimately provide refuge from God's judgment. Revelation specifically includes “the rich men” among those attempting to hide. The answer Scripture gives is not a better bunker. PESTILENCE AND A CALL TO SEEK GOD After COVID-19, the news of an employee at Russia's Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute dying after developing "pneumonia of unknown etiology" should remind us how quickly circumstances can change. Reports have raised concerns about possible plague exposure, although Russian authorities have not confirmed plague as the cause. Habakkuk prayed: "Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet." - Habakkuk 3:5 KJV Habakkuk 3 presents the LORD coming in majesty, judgment, and power. Pestilence is pictured as being completely under God's authority. The message is not that we should declare every disease outbreak to be a specific judgment from God. We do not know that. Rather, events like these should remind us that human beings are fragile and that our ultimate hope cannot be placed in governments, laboratories, technology, wealth, or human power. Habakkuk's response was faith: "Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation." - Habakkuk 3:18 KJV Do not live in panic or spread rumors.
