⛪ A different view for #FontsOnFriday: the baptismal font in Dülken, framed by the nave and organ behind it.
Sometimes the setting is just as fascinating as the object itself.

A baptismal font stands prominently in the central aisle of a church in Dülken, Germany. The dark stone font has a polished brass lid topped by a small cross. Rows of carved wooden pews create strong lines leading toward the large pipe organ in the background. Tall pale columns, pointed arches and the vaulted church interior frame the composition symmetrically, making the baptismal font the clear focal point of the photograph.

✨ #MosaicMonday in Cologne Cathedral: Spain is personified as a crowned woman holding a model of Santiago de Compostela Cathedral — part of a wider allegorical programme of Christian nations.

Close-up of a floor mosaic in Cologne Cathedral showing an allegorical representation of Spain. A crowned female figure sits on a throne in flowing pale and reddish robes and holds a detailed architectural model of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela on her lap. She belongs to a larger symbolic programme in which major Christian nations are represented as enthroned female figures, each holding the principal church associated with that country. Spain is represented by Santiago de Compostela, while other figures in the wider composition represent Italy with St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the Byzantine Empire with Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, and France with Reims Cathedral. The scene is formed from thousands of small mosaic pieces in cream, ochre, brown, muted red and blue-grey tones and is surrounded by elaborate floral and geometric ornament.Close-up of a floor mosaic in Cologne Cathedral showing an allegorical representation of Spain. Large circular stained-glass rose window in the Memorial Church in Speyer, Germany. Dark stone tracery divides the window into numerous radial sections filled with richly coloured figurative scenes. The glass contains groups of people, individual figures, landscapes and decorative motifs in red, blue, green, white and gold tones. Smaller portrait medallions and ornamental elements surround the central sections, while the dark tracery creates a strong contrast with the illuminated glass. The overall composition appears highly detailed and almost mosaic-like, with many separate narrative scenes arranged across the rose.
