⛪ A different view for #FontsOnFriday: the baptismal font in Dülken, framed by the nave and organ behind it.
Sometimes the setting is just as fascinating as the object itself.

#FontsOnFriday with this Octagonal font at St Andrews, Penrice🏴
unclear if contemporary with the c12 founding of the church:
'very early, octagonal font probably remodelled in the C15 or C16'

St Nicholas’ Church, Normanton-on-Cliffe, Lincolnshire. #fontsonFriday
The Romanesque font at st. Peter’s, Newnham-on-Severn is one of the few remaining medieval features in this Victorian church, but what a feature it is! The Virgin Mary and 11 apostles decorate the font, including St Peter himself. Dating to ca. 1150 (?), it is a stunning survival. #FontsOnFriday

The font in Salford Cathedral for #FontsonFriday.
Perhaps surprising that in Bury St Edmunds St Edmund's isn't the cathedral but a Catholic church in the Grecian style inside and out. Dated 1837 with remodelled interior from 1877 but with a modern wooden font with a hinged lid. Fits well with the box pews. #FontsOnFriday #BuryStEdmunds #Suffolk
Local red sandstone Norman font at St Peter’s Church, Stoke Fleming with marks from a hinge and bolt used to lock the cover to prevent consecrated water being stolen and used in witchcraft.
👀 Wetheringsett, Suffolk
A date of 1660-65 is suggested for the font by Pevsner ( @yalepress.bsky.social ), but I like the font cover made in the early 1960s.
The devils in the detail! At the foot of the fifteenth century font at the church of St Peter and Paul, Northleach, Gloucestershire, is a much eroded series of devils seemingly being crushed by the power of the holy water above; you can just make out their claws and faces. Unusual! #FontsOnFriday

This wooden font case and cover were added to St Botolph's, Cambridge in 1637 and completely conceal the 14thC font.
It's a rather handsome construction.
