After years of searching, trudging over the machair, beaches and headlands, delighted to find a mobile and flighty Buff-breasted Sandpiper on Vatersay this morning; the first record for the island and my first self-found too. Well worth getting rained on for! #birdingscotland

Routine check of Shawbost beach this afternoon, wasn’t expecting the only duck in the bay to be a Surf Scoter. #birdingscotland

This stunning juvenile male Pallid Harrier has now been with us here in the south Mainland of Shetland for the last three weeks. At one stage it was joined by a juvenile female for a couple of days. #BirdingScotland #UKbirding #RareBirdsUK #Birds #UKWildlife

Found this fresh juvenile American Golden Plover at Ruaig, Tiree today in the same Golden Plover flock as the long-staying Buff-breasted Sandpiper, although the Baird's Sandpiper has not been seen at Gott Bay since yesterday #BirdingScotland #PWC2026 @birdguides.bsky.social

The (juvenile? plumage looked to be pristine) Osprey, that flew over at Crosswood Reservoir, West Lothian, Scotland this morning. Also, it's fairly unusual (for me anyway) that it doesn't appear to be ringed @birdinglothian.bsky.social #BirdingScotland

Definitely one of my favourite sights + sounds of #nature Pink-footed geese just arriving for their winter stay. A couple of thousand seen today so far around the western Pentland Hills area #BirdingScotland

My recent bird in Shetland also did so, to a nearby Ruff. Supposedly a male trait. #BirdingScotland

Got in my last trip to Musselburgh for a while before my Uni life kicks off.

Was very fruitful today with: a Brent Goose, Slavonian Grebe, 3 Pintail, Ww Scoter, first Pink foot flocks of the autumn and 60+ Rt Diver.

I was pleased to see this male Stonechat on the wall of St Fittick's Church today, my first in the area for a while. Seasonal shifts were demonstrated by a few skeins of Pink-footed Geese overhead, while a late Swift flew south.
