A breezy evening #patchbirding
Highlights .. my first redwings of autumn 😍 barn owl , the patch raven pair were doing some great synchronised aerial acrobatics and a few skeins of pink feet over
#Patchbirding after work… Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail, GC Grebe, 2 Grey Herons, 1 Green Sandpiper, Jays and the usual suspects around Singleton Lake & Rural Godinton Park.
Another day of westerlies, with some drizzle thrown in for good measure this morning. These four barnacle geese heading north over Tynemouth Pier kept the #patchbirding year list ticking over though. #nebirding
#PatchBirding ups and downs this evening. Far too much human disturbance at the Hothfield Water Bodies… Stonechat pair & Little Egret noted though. Better on rural Godinton Park with a hunting Barn Owl & calling Tawny Owl, Common Gull, Pied Wagtails and a nice flock of 50+ Goldfinches. Charming 👍.
First day I've needed a jumper, and the first 13 Redwing at Weald CP today. Other highlights: at least 50 Gadwall on the conservation lake, Shoveler, 2 Little Grebe and a Grey Wagtail.
Also Small Copper and Clouded Yellow butterflies
Lovely whizz around some of Dartmoor's pits. 7 Pintail (11! yesterday - big no. for the area), 2 Redwing (1st of autumn), Common Sand (scarce in Oct), Firecrest, 2 Wigeon, 45+ Tufted, 18+ L Grebe, Snipe, 150+ Teal, Shelduck the highlights. #patchbirding #birding #ukbirding #birds

#Patchbirding this evening. Was not expecting much as the evenings draw in, least of all a passerine. However a calling FIRECREST 🔥 on rural Godinton Park stopped me in my tracks, & then the little gem showed, feeding in the trees. Still a rare here (averaging 1 record a year). Year ✅ #102.
Thrilled to find a patch Pectoral Sandpiper a couple of weeks ago after it dropped in out of the sky calling at sunset. This represents a second individual in almost inside a year at Rhyl on the North Wales coast. #RareBirdsUK #birding #patchbirding
Wasn't expecting much but a good local walk around Crow Green this evening, highlights: Grey Wagtail, Little Grebe, Hobby, Tawny Owl and a Kingfisher.
#Patchbirding this evening at @SingletonLake & rural Godinton Park. Pair of Egyptian Geese back on the lake, 1 GC Grebe, 1 Canada & 1 Grey Wagtail. At dusk a calling Little Owl & a very distant view of the Barn Owl flying away from me.
Yesterday 4th Oct: Back from holiday to an afternoon #PatchBirding session. 4 Skylarks S over rural Godinton Park + adult Med Gull S, 4 Clouded Yellows, 1 Sparrowhawk, C Buzzards, Kestrel, Jays & the usual Woodpeckers…
A good weekend on my local West Suffolk patch at Denston: 1CY YLG, 3 Stonechat, and 1 Rock Pipit – a patch tick! #patchbirding #Larids #Suffolkbirding

Today’s #PatchBirding: first Redwing of the winter; last ?? 2 Spotted Flycatchers of the summer. Notable influx of Song Thrush overnight. Firecrest. 😊 Autumn 🍂 #sussexbirding
Beautiful couple of mornings #patchbirding on Dartmoor. Four Firecrest (3 Wotter Pit, 1 C Down), 2 Pintail, 5 Wigeon, 60+ Teal, 200+ C Geese, 2 Shelduck the best in lower pits. Plenty of Skylark over the house. #birding #ukbirding #birds
First Redwing of the Autumn in the park (Woodhouse Moor). Hopefully lots more to come.
But no Spotted flycatcher and likely none this year now we're into October - records only on Aug/Sept other years (grey bars on the graph).
31 spp for the week of birding in the city.

Another great day on patch today, 2 Grey Plover (the second time I've seen any here) 6 Little Egret, a juv White-tailed Eagle, and yet again, even more Hen Harriers. I have seen at least one every day that I've gone down for the last 3 weeks! #PatchBirding @patchbirding.bsky.social
