African penguins (Critically Endangered) are surprisingly gnarly. An aviary section houses avocets, spoonbills, lapwings, terns and ducks, including Spectacled eider (male shown here). They have kept Common eider in the past, but none are here now... #birds #waterbirds #ducks #Birdworld

A Great Crested Grebe swimming, creating ripples on calm grey/blue water. The bird faces to the left. The Grebe has a elegant streamlined shape - it has a mixture of brown and black plumage on its body while its long S shaped neck is cream at the front and black on the back. It has black and chestnut plumes on its throat and cheek, a cream coloured face, and its black crest lies flat across the top of its head. The Grebe has a dark eye and a long, pointed, dark coloured beak. The reflection of its head and neck shimmers in the water beneath it.
