☝️Still can't say #Airborne, even though we know medical personnel will be wearing #N95 masks when treating patients infected with pneumonic plague. And not just because patients might forget to cough into their elbow.

Darya Shipilova, 28, was working at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute, which is where she is believed to have contracted the illness, according to the local news outlet People of Baikal. Shipilova was admitted to hospital on September 29 and died two days later after having been placed on a ventilator, it is understood. And now as many as 200 people with whom she may have had contact have been quarantined, the outlet added, without elaborating. There was no immediate statement from Russia's health ministry but Alexei Tsydenov, governor of Russia's Buryatia region, said in an earlier social media post that a woman in the neighbouring Irkutsk region had 'died of plague'. Russia's chief state sanitary doctor Anna Popova rushed to Siberia to take personal charge of the outbreak, according to reports, while a mask decree has been implemented in Irkutsk. Irkutsk governor Igor Kobzev said: 'We held an extraordinary meeting of the regional sanitary and anti-epidemic commission with the participation of Russia's Chief State Sanitary Doctor Anna Popova. Recent photo at the NHS. Over 6 years into #COVID, and we still have “wash your hands” under “AIRBORNE PRECAUTIONS.”

We are failing hard to communicate one of the most basic lessons of this pandemic: Airborne means spread through the AIR. Clean air is infection control.

A large pelican is changing direction to begin a dive after spotting some fish to gobble up below. There is water spray around the bird as the bird still had a lot of residual water in its feathers from its previous dive. The bird has a yellow bill, gray/brown back/wings/tail, and a white head/neck.
