These are two examples of the 30 existing Ain Ghazal sculptures. Discovered in Jordan, they are c.9,000 years old & are the first known example of large scale production of human forms. They are made of lime plaster & reed making their survival all the more remarkable 🏛️📷Amman Museum (L), Louvre (R)

Temple Church was built originally by the Knights Templar in the 12C. The church suffered from severe bombing in the 2nd World War. Many of the original heads were replaced with accurate copies.

An installation photo of the exhibition W̶o̶m̶a̶n̶ Painter, in which the viewer sees paintings partially obscured by people standing in front of them. At the center is Lavinia Fontana's painting of Minerva dressing, flanked by a Michaelina Wautier's "Education of the Virgin" on the left and "Pieta" by Mechtelt toe Boecop (or van Lichtenberg) on the right. At the far left and right, a painting is partially visible.

A vast #Roman fortress was established at Usk in the 50s AD. Covering an area of 19.5ha. This was the base for a #legion of 5,000 at a time when the Usk river probably marked the edge of the Roman Empire.

A Maya censer featuring a deity figure.

I haven’t been able to identify which deity is represented, but the sculptural details are fascinating.

Medieval guild hall + autumn = Phwoar! 👀 🧡

We are looking at the exterior of the Hall on a sunny autumnal day. It’s chilly and leaves cover the lawn. Shadows from the trees cast pattens on the medieval brickwork whilst the yellow ochre plasterwork glows in the October sunshine.
