Alongside the supporting and pleasant production process, I was happily surprised to learn that The Hebrew University is part of this amazing Open Access initiative with The Company of Biologists. I was further surprised of how smooth, quick and easy the approval process was. And the tree that was planted– it was a thrill to learn about it, such a simple and brilliant idea! I could never afford Open Access and this has been a very positive experience. Thanks!

We were excited to submit our paper to Journal of Experimental Biology because The Company of Biologists uses surplus processing charges to develop and implement programs that benefit our community, which is a great way to reward scientists (directly or indirectly) for their valuable volunteered time for peer-reviewing and editing. The grant that funded our work had already expired when our paper was submission-ready unfortunately, but the University of Kentucky Libraries and The Company of Biologists had a Read & Publish agreement that allowed us to publish in the journal we wanted AND make it accessible for everyone! So, I’m glad that this type of agreement exists and I hope it continues to bring in new institutions to participate.

We welcome applications for grants of up to £400 to cover the cost of running a small meeting within the fields of our journals. This would normally be a local meeting taking place on one day and with a maximum budget of £1,000. Find out more www.biologists.com/grants/small...

I am delighted that our paper has been published Open Access in Journal of Cell Science, supported by the agreement with Karolinska Institutet. It is especially rewarding to know that the funds invested to make our paper Open Access will be spent wisely and responsibly by The Company of Biologists to support research and researchers.
