The Sutton Hoo purse lid which was discovered in 1939 as part of the Anglo-Saxon ship burial at Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge in Suffolk. Dating to the early 7th century, the purse lid is now part of the collections at the British Museum. 📸 My own #FindsFriday #SuttonHoo

This spectacular fresco depicts Bacchus, covered in glistening grapes and accompanied by a panther, a snake and birds in front off a conical mountain (maybe Vesuvius?). I have slightly enhanced the colours for clarity. 📍 House of the Centenarian, Pompeii 🏛️📷 MANN

Medieval guild hall + autumn = Phwoar! 👀 🧡

We are looking at the exterior of the Hall on a sunny autumnal day. It’s chilly and leaves cover the lawn. Shadows from the trees cast pattens on the medieval brickwork whilst the yellow ochre plasterwork glows in the October sunshine.

Recreation of Richborough Roman coastal fort #Kent c AD 250

The fort enclosed an earlier triumphal arch

Anyone who's read Rosemary Sutcliff's 1959 novel *The Lantern Bearers* will know the arch probably became a signal tower
