Stone structures from Late Archaic (6500–4000 cal BP) Caleta Huelén 42, Chile.
Under their floors, many human burials, complete with rich grave goods, were found, indicating high social complexity among the hunter-gatherers living here #TombTuesday 🏺 #Archaeology

For #TombTuesday. Sandstone statues of Queen Hatshepsut as Osiris at her mortuary temple near Egypt's Valley of the Kings (2004). #photography #Egypt #Africa #PhotographersOfBlueSky #Hatshepsut #ruins #AncientBlueSky #travelphotography #archaeology #temple #EastCoastKin #ECK #WCK #rockintuesday

The statues depict the female Pharaoh Hatshepsut represented in the form of Osiris, the ancient Egyptian god of the afterlife. Captured from a sharp side profile angle, the photo shows a tight, diagonal perspective line of five visible statues receding into the background.

Roman tomb on Dere Street, near High Rochester, Northumberland.

#RomanBritain #Archaeology #History (see Alt.)

Dere Street Roman Road
was built by occupying Romans in AD 7981. It was reused during the time of the Antonine Wall, some 60 years later. It also found use in 1298, when King Edward
of England marched his forces north along Dere Street to the Battle of Falkirk.
A Roman cemetery is an area of ground set aside for the disposal, celebration and remembrance of the dead. Under Roman law it was illegal to bury or burn the dead within a town, so throughout the Roman
occupation
cemeteries were set up outside the settlement to which they belonged, usually alongside an approach road. The monument is situated on a rocky eminence some 400m SE
of High Rochester Roman fort close to Petty Knowes farmhouse, and comprises a Roman cemetery located on either side of Dere Street Roman road. Around I00 small barrows have been identified, these being largely low circular mounds averaging 3-4m dia. some of which also exhibit a shallow external ditch and low external bank.

The simple dolmen of La Pierre Tournante in Tavers (Loiret) has a 4m capstone resting on 4 orthostats. It was said to turn and reveal a treasure once every century. Card by Griveau c.1905. #TombTuesday.

Another child's tombstone from Roman Antibes for #TombTuesday. The name of the 5-year-old isn't on the fragment but it records their mother (Frontina) and that the tomb is intended for the parents too. The axe symbol may allude to the tomb's construction while the ivy leaf is uncannily heart-shaped…

Part of a carved tombstone of the 3rd century AD, with the epitaph:
---vixit annos]V dies XXXXV
---et---]nia Frontina
---et si]bi poterisquae
suis vivi fecer]unt
The stone is decorated with a relief carving of a small axe (ascia) and an incised ivy leaf (hedera)

Large boulders flank a huge circular cairn of smaller rocks. Standing stones flank the cairn and a second cairn is in the background to the left of the main cairn.
