🐒 In monkeys, how COVID gets in beats dose

Pooling 107 experiments on 721 monkeys and other primates shows the entry route shapes infection more than dose, age, sex, or species. Route also decides which tissues get infected.

Taking a social media break. My pup, Murphy, age 17 is going to the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow after a lifetime of love & attention. He can no longer walk up & down the stairs & has a heart murmur.

Before things get even more difficult for him, we don’t want to be selfish. #DogMom #RIP đŸŸâ€ïž

"SARS-CoV-2 is linked to “an unusually high level of ‘indiscriminate’ killing of T cells,”6 says Leitner, adding that this observation is “reminiscent of” measles, which can cause immune amnesia by depleting memory B cells"

Jeimy says that many infants and toddlers admitted to hospital with rare infections since 20225 weren’t yet born when pandemic restrictions were in place, and they therefore couldn’t be experiencing immunity debt. They were, however, likely exposed to SARS-CoV-2.

Wolfgang Leitner, chief of the Innate Immunity Section at the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), speculates that covid-19 may somehow impair the immune system’s “memory” of past infections, potentially making even healthy people more vulnerable to future pathogens. He wonders whether the virus leaves lasting scars on the immune system’s T cell defences. “But that’s just (my) hypothesis,” he emphasises in an email.

Immunity reset?

Long COVID made the words harder to reach.

There’s something especially cruel about an illness that can make your own mind feel just out of arm’s reach.

#LongCovid patients have nearly twenty times more microscopic blood clots than healthy individuals.

Unlike typical clots, these 'microclots' are wrapped in sticky, web-like structures made of DNA and enzymes released by white blood cells.

The hellacious part of having a special interest in epidemiology post-COVID is continually running into announcements like these and getting increasingly annoyed by everyone’s untreated PTSD. Aside from the misinformation in the skeet, no, this isn’t a Wuhan situation. This isn’t the next pandemic

Post-Exertional Malaise in Long COVID and Post-Vaccine Syndrome: Why “Exercise More” Is the Wrong Answer

A walk around the block, a few hours of focused work, a social event, or a workout you thought you were finally ready for. It didn’t feel excessive at the time.

Then, 12 to 72 hours later, something happened that has no parallel in “normal” human experience. Not tiredness. Not soreness. A complete systemic collapse, with fatigue so profound it feels neurological, brain fog that makes thinking feel like wading through quicksand, muscle pain, sensory sensitivity, and a return of every symptom you thought you’d been making progress on.

This is post-exertional malaise. And if you have Long COVID or Post-Vaccine Syndrome, you’ve almost certainly experienced it.

What you may not have received is an honest clinical explanation of what it actually is, why it happens, and why the treatment most clinicians prescribe — pushing through, gradually increasing activity, “deconditioning” management — is not just ineffective but genuinely harmful.
