A new #preprint #OpenScience #PeerReview by Ian G. Colditz (2026) Is homeostatic efficiency a positive aspect of health and well-being?. Zenodo, ver. 2 peer-reviewed and recommended by Peer Community in Animal Science. doi.org/10.5281/zeno...

Reviewers rarely get much feedback after an editorial decision.

What post-decision information would genuinely help you improve without compromising confidentiality: the editor’s rationale, anonymized co-reviewer comments, feedback on your report, or something else?

Once more, for the people in the back, federal scientific grant funding decisions should be driven by expert #PeerReview.

Russ Vought, Director of the OMB, is aiming to tighten partisan, non-expert political control over research grant funding decisions.

A limitation is not just something to list at the end of a manuscript.

Ask whether it changes confidence in the findings, how the results should be interpreted, or how broadly they can be applied, and whether the claims reflect that.

A good review does not depend on knowing everything.

It depends on making sound judgments within your expertise and being transparent about the limits of that expertise.

If an important issue sits outside your expertise, flag it without overreaching.

Explain what you noticed and why it may matter, then let the editor decide whether additional specialist input is needed.

Reviewing outside your exact expertise does not automatically mean declining.

You may still be well placed to assess parts of the manuscript, as long as you are clear about what you can and cannot judge confidently.

Does giving reviewers a "golden ticket" to greenlight acceptance in #PeerReview yield more influential papers than accepting the runners-up? Not in computer science, apparently:

if you think “there is no skill in research”, you’ve really missed the point of #research & #PeerReview

A good #peerreviewer does not need to have every answer.

If you identify an important issue that falls outside your expertise, explain the concern clearly and let the editor know what kind of specialist input may be needed.

What kind of feedback after an editorial decision would help you improve most as a #peerreviewer?

❓Editor’s rationale
❓Anonymized co-reviewer comments
❓Feedback on your report
❓Final decision only

What would you actually want to receive?

#ReviewerTip: Before questioning authorship, start with the evidence available.

Check contribution statements, disclosures, approvals, and inconsistencies. If information is missing, describe exactly what is unclear rather than speculating about intent.

Science progresses not only by confirming what we already know, but by recognizing what we have not yet learned to expect. #PeerReview should be designed to protect that possibility

Brian Wansink ran Cornell's Food and Brand Lab and published some of the most-cited nutrition studies of the 2010s. In 2016 he blogged about a grad student who "rescued" a failed study by slicing the data until something came back significant.
