An Experiential Metaphysical — Experience Is Divinity and Funny God Subsequent to these discoveries and their eventual postulations as theories, frameworks for understanding, and paradigms, came a further elaboration that involved a description of Reality as essentially Experience, with matter being metaphor for true existence — which was coincident with the findings of quantum physics and Idealistic and panentheistic perspectives of all times. As I put it, the data from consciousness research calls for an existential metaphysical, one that takes as the basic unit of Reality to be one’s immediate Experience in any moment, with all its components of experience — cognitive, emotional, sensations, feelings, and experiences even subtler, for which there might as yet be no words. I also put forth an understanding of spiritual or metaphysical reality and the corresponding life program and goals that come from it in Funny God: The Tao of Funny God and the Mind’s True Liberation (2015). That is to say that the organism does not detect the outside world through its senses, it determines the outside world through them. Or at least it interprets that outside world in a way that is determined by its biological makeup. Just as fresh to the field, it adds to that discipline by exploring the influences from our time of “prenatal hell,” during late gestation. That is something never really dealt with before and only written about by one other.3 So it is that this book has to do with the time after birth — the newborn and infancy periods — yet it extends back to the time before birth, the prenatal. However, the prenatal is divided into two separate Veils, which could not be more contrasting. There is the time of blissful existence during the first two trimesters of gestation. This is the basis of much of what I call the joy grids — which is the substratum of each human’s personality having to do with what gives them pleasure, joy, fulfillment, ecstasy, and bliss. It is our deepest self in this lifetime, and it is interconnected with the Divine. From which we had only a little time earlier separated, keep in mind. It also expands on what happens, generally speaking, during the third trimester, when the fetus’s larger mass, in conjunction with the bipedal stance of humans, results in constriction of the blood vessels going to the prenate. The extreme compression experienced by the unborn baby at this time already causes pressure from all sides on the body and increasingly more difficulty in movement. To go beyond that is a must if one is to experience fulfillment in life; and to do that one must experiment with life and experience outside the bounds of what one is given. We get a lot out of this immersion in the Cosmic Soup of Experience of what is possible. This is often the task of youth, yet it can occur throughout one’s life: trying out different experiences and possibilities of life. Nevertheless, one must make something out of what one experiences. This is one of the most important themes of this book. In order not to spend one’s life in depression, one is required to bring out what was garnered through that life research and experimentation, positively, creatively — and in a fulfilling and socially satisfying way ... like a tree does in taking the nutrients it pulls out of the soil to manifest in leaves and blossoms and limbs. If one does not, one is like a drowned plant, underwater in a swamp ... unfulfilled, depressed, unhappy. At best, one is in an oar-less rowboat, directionless and drifting, in the middle of an infinite sea. Yet there is the important question of how to determine these things. Of all that one can be, all that one could actualize in life, which are the few to which one addresses one’s precious time and efforts? Destiny, fate, and luck determine much, yet there remains an arena in which one can operate and make choices. I. APOCALYPSE AND INSANITY Page 10 For most people, I would assume I am not saying anything new in pointing out that our times are unique. All times are unique, true. Still, what no other time has seen is the actual — not imagined — possibility, even likelihood, of the “end of the world.” We are facing the end of our species and perhaps all life on this planet along with us. Considering just one scenario, we have the capacity, with only a minuscule amount of our nuclear weapons, to wipe out everything living on this planet. We all know this. I used the phrase, just now, “end of the world,” deliberately. For I expect that it will evoke in some a reaction that what I am going to say from here on will be a drawn-out verbal version of a familiar cartoon, depicting a bearded and bedraggled man on a street corner, carrying a sign or wearing a clapboard proclaiming, “The end is near!” and that what I will say will have just about as much credibility as that man’s would. I take that chance to make my first point ... which is: The fact that we can so easily dismiss, ridicule, and smugly deride such ideas of apocalypse points to our complacency with these strangest and most precarious of days. In fact, we have lived with this unprecedented situation — dangling on a thread, as it were, above the abyss of nuclear annihilation, to name just one of the possible forces of extinction ... we’ve lived with it for so long as for it to seem commonplace, as part of the normal and familiar furniture of our daily lives.

FIFTIES GENERATION, MARIJUANA, AND CAFFEINE Page 95 … poetification of angst, and the belief that their contemporary society was characterized by alienation, conformism, inauthenticity, and, most tellingly, “phoniness.” The normal life of the World-War-Two Generation was seen as a “rat race,” motivated by such high ideals (sarcasm intended) as “keeping up with the Joneses,” and pervasive materialism and consumerism. Yet activism was not the beatnik’s predominant response to this perceived negative social context, as it would be only a generation later. Passivism, apathy, pessimism, and defeatism — masquerading often as existential insight — were the most common attitudes expressed. This is what one would expect as a result of marijuana and caffeine use. Nonetheless, art was deemed a weapon, however impotent, with which to rail against what seemed an overwhelming, huge mainstream ignorance or unconsciousness. So the apparent activism of that time in the Fifties is found in rebellious poetry, folk music, and fine arts of all kinds, especially literature, theater, painting, and some film. Yet such artistic renderings had a powerful impact on the culture in that they were contrary, were opposite of, the dominant conformism of the times, as exhibited in the WWII Generation as well as in their establishment-oriented Fifties Generation cohorts.

Meditation Is Often Emotionally “Messy” Wilber’s theory strikes me as a curiously dualistic way of interpreting a nondichotomous reality. And although his reasoning is tight and internally consistent, it excludes the evidence of transpersonal experience as exhibited in the spiritual, psychedelic, and ethnographic literature, as well as the evidence of meditation research. For, as Epstein and Leiff, (1981, p. 140) wrote in commenting on Wilber’s distinctions between supposed pre- and transpersonal experience: “In fact, meditation experiences embody all of the above. Confusion arises when meditation is analyzed as one discrete state, rather than as a developmental process.” Spiritual Growth Is Not a Linear Path, It Is an Expanding Outward Thus, I differ with Wilber in that I do not see pre-egoic influences as counter to a transcendental path; rather, I see them as distortions to be worked through. Fetal Aliens Yet Alvin Lawson has pointed out how alien abduction stories are replete with perinatal elements: passing through walls, umbilical beams of connection to the “mother ship” — the placenta — either fetal-looking aliens or aliens whose eyes are most prominent and the lower parts of their faces undistinguished — similar to the way a newborn might see an obstetrician wearing a medical mask. In my bachelor’s thesis I sought to discover whether spirituality and God were real or were results of primal pain, as Arthur Janov contended. While approaching the project from Janov’s perspective and not entertaining spiritual interpretations in the least, I was shocked to both begin experiencing spiritual experiences in my primaling, which could not have roots in my primal pain, and to come across other primalers who were having spiritual, transpersonal experiences in their inner work as well. Validity of Some Spiritual/Transpersonal Experiences Furthermore, research into the literature and findings of this new field and into corresponding spiritual literature led me to discover, not only that such spiritual experiences were being encountered in deep experiential psychotherapy ... Grof’s work was significant here ... but also that some primal experiences of the not so spiritual kind were remarkably like experiences that had been described as being encountered on their spiritual path by enlightened souls both currently and in previous times ... Guru Swami Muktananda’s autobiography (1974) was significant in this respect. Had liberated souls gone through a kind of primal therapy on their way to enlightenment? It seemed to be so.

Womb (dome) has become more like birth canal or cesarean opening. And from that opening above him, rappelling on ropes, descend the cavalry. On a related note, the rescuers descending on ropes ... relief via ropes or cords ... is symbolic of the neonate’s wishes for life-saving oxygen to be coming more abundantly through the umbilical cord. As we will see, being trapped and feeling tortured and suffocated because of a reduced flow of oxygen-carrying blood through the umbilical cord is a near universal human experience and is a major aspect of human’s uniquely-configured prenatal and birth experiences, out of which the singular human personality and human worldview emanate.3 At any rate, being in the dome is symbolic of the stage in the birth process before birth when one is in the womb; it is termed by Grof, Basic Perinatal Matrix I or BPM I.
