And yesterday this astonishing Egyptian Nightjar near Roger Riddington’s garden. The table of European records is from Dutch Birding 41: 36-40 (2019). It is good to have a photographed modern British record. #BirdingScotland

Did a big day on patch today, 50km cycled, 85 species, much better than I'd expected! Nothing particularly interesting but this White-tailed Eagle at eye level was by far the best encounter! Also a late Whinchat and a Blackcap eating berries #patchbirding #BirdingScotland @patchbirding.bsky.social

Britain's third and Scotland's first-ever EGYPTIAN NIGHTJAR at Virkie, Shetland this evening. A brilliant find by Roger Riddington. Stunning. #BirdingScotland #UKbirding #RareBirdsUK

There seemed to be a few Buzzards wandering about today, including this juvenile over St Fittick's Park.

Autumn migration has been much in evidence on Barra today. Our first returning Pale-bellied Brent Geese cruised past Cleat first thing, there was a big arrival of Meadow Pipits around the island and a steady trickle of Lesser Black-backed Gulls slipping away to the south. #birdingscotland

Whitesands yesterday afternoon. Two Little Stints and two Curlew Sandpipers spotted three hours or so before high tide. Peregrine and Whimbrel overhead. #birdinglothian #birdingscotland @birdinglothian.bsky.social

When misogyny is so embedded in general society why are folk surprised to find it’s prevalent in birding too? It’s not just down to women to call it out. Men can be allies without being patronising. We can challenge our mates and misogynistic posters on socials.

Pacific diver yesterday at Caolas beag, Big Sand, Gairloch. Photos show complete neckless, dark vent strap, rounded head shape, small fine bill, dark flanks & small size compared to black-throated divers. So different it's almost like a grebe within the flock #BirdingScotland #RareBirdsUK
