The Tizrou Desert is home to many life forms. The most famous is the dugo, large sand seals that use spiny protrusions on their sides to push through the soft sand.

The desert is also home to many plants like the scarlet olive & sun pear cactus.

In the Barren Waste, apart from cacti, old withered trees, a few oases, rivers of blood & dried bushes, there's a brand of sticks that turn into snakes upon touching.

Cacti grow in the vast desert around Oasis City, some with toxic fruit. Sand hydras hunt smaller animals (and humanoids) by creating dust clouds to hide themselves, then strike with their numerous mouths. No one is really sure what tumbleweed elementals do or why they exist.

I'm afraid it's mundane flora and fauna for the most part, so I'll focus on the supernatural: Beasts aren't usually well-equipped for surviving in the desert (few to no humans there), but RARELY some will spawn with the ability to hibernate under sand.

Several proboscidean (elephant relatives), and rhinocerontid species call The Wastes home. Gomphotheres like Gomphotherium steinheimense were very successful on the Miocene Asian Steppe. 🧵 1/7

No one in AElit has stayed in the Deadlands long enough to fully explore the flora or fauna. They just assume nothing lives there. They might be surprised at the small lizards and flowers that can be found by those who look. The barmbvenas flower even has healing properties.

WIP 1 Shinigami Desert: Despite being located within a Japanese speaking nation, the abandoned villages have an almost ancient European design to them, closer resembling ancient Rome with a Japanese spin.

Admittedly, this is my weakest link. I haven’t figured out what all plants they would be growing out there. Prickly Pear, Yucca, and a few other succulents for sure.
Animals? Rare in the 5GC, but they might cultivate some moths and beetles.

The desert is moderately stocked with life that's learned to cope with the heat (i.e., nocturnal lifestyle/blooming cycle).

Aurochs are armored rhino-like beasts the ParDafi hunt. Multan are armored camelids, also hunted. (Okay, so most things ate hunted) 🧵

Deserts, in my setting, is where dragons live. They're not the intelligent dragons of DnD, but more animalistic. Intelligence of a Border Collie, and they're about the size of a cow.

This is why the Raroners are known as dragon riders.

#OctoberWorldbuilders I think the thing that stands out most in Suzamna is the Dying Forest. It used to be lush and green but has been drying up and dying and is prone to fires. When the Empire is flooded with Dusk, the forest starts to change. The trees get stronger, but they become… eerie.

4. Flora/fauna

Sand Reapers are native to Azrakia. Giant scorpions with tall, almost horselike upper bodies like demented centaurs, they make ideal mounts for soldiers, given their natural armour.

3. Architecture

The buildings in Wyrmoila were built centuries prior from the natural red sandstone of the desert. They are added to with banners and stone carvings, but a lot of personality has been lost to wartime efficiency, so decoration is minimal.

2. Desert culture

Azrakia has no culture. Not anymore. Their traditions, their songs, the entire lives of the dragonborn clan living there has been consumed by war. They live to fight, tragically blind to the fact they have so little to fight for anymore.
