There was just a little bit of excitement at Lytchett Heath this morning when Poole Harbours 1st Radde's Warbler was extracted from a mist net. My 205th bird for Lytchett Bay @narwhalsh.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social @mick666.bsky.social

Well that wasn't on my bingo card for this morning - a fab' Radde's Warbler caught by @narwhalsh.bsky.social & the hardworking local ringing group at the end of my street on Lytchett Heath! A characterful 1st for the Poole Harbour recording area @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social

Side view of an olive-brown Radde's Warbler, facing right as it is held in a ringer's hand. The bird's stubby, Great Tit-esque, bill and long yellowish supercilium are obvious. The blue ringer's coat and blurred heathland vegetation can be seen in the background.Front view of an olive-brown Radde's Warbler, facing slightly right as it is held in a ringer's hand. A singing bird in spring is your best chance after seeing one in the hand of a ringer. Finding a silent skulker in autumn is always a buzz. If you haven't seen one by next autumn contact me and come to a ringing session. Almost g'teed in August.

Finding a Grasshopper Warbler and a Dartford Warbler in the nettles at Lytchett Bay tonight was reminiscent of birding an offshore island. Maybe not news breakers but great autumn local patch jewels. @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social

I try & stay out of politics on Bluesky. However, anybody who cares about the environment & our wildlife needs to seriously think about why they would vote for any of the right wing parties that plan to scrap our environmental & wildlife protections

Marie has the Aurora, I'd seriously consider them if I had to replace my Swaro's. 👍

Nostalgic morning around the Kersal area of Salford. Lived here 40+ years ago. All signs of our accommodation and pubs gone but the green space and River Irwell much improved. Some very enjoyable city birding. 46sp in little over an hour & a half. ebird.org/checklist/S3...
