"I left its world premiere not only shaken and dazed, but also wishing it could go into theaters the next day." Godfrey Cheshire reviews ARTIFICIAL and offers thoughts on the conclusion of this year’s NYFF:
“It tackles the poetic and the philosophical while avoiding pretentiousness by leaning into cheesiness and pop-culture nostalgia." Sherin Nicole reviews VISIONQUEST:
The Cinema Femme Short Film Festival has been unfolding at the Music Box Theatre, culminating with the Chicago premiere of Emily Robinson’s UGLY CRY. More details about what to expect from the fest:

I liked 14TH a lot, though it's not as tightly constructed as 13TH.
I'm confused by critics who said it's too much information and they couldn't keep up. I followed it just fine.

"Essential… One of the most remarkable studies of the amplified rollout of fascism in film history.” Brian Tallerico of @ebertvoices.bsky.social on MY UNDESIRABLE FRIENDS: PART II – EXILE

“[It] is a documentary with good intentions, but it’s presented carelessly and insults our intelligence."
@judysquirrels.bsky.social reviews 14TH, from NYFF:
“For all its intelligence and sensitivity, watching this movie feels a bit like listening to an automobile dealer explain why we can’t live without cars."
@mattzollerseitz.bsky.social reviews WORLD WITHOUT COWS:
"Savage and his crew may be on top of everything in [this film], but that doesn’t make their latest technical showcase better, given its clear limitations."

In her NYFF dispatch, @judysquirrels.bsky.social reviews AT NIGHT, FOREIGN TRAVEL, & JOY OF JOYS:
“[These three films] though directed by men, are all female-driven works that explore the weight of loss, denial, and roads not taken in their protagonists’ lives."
In his 1st dispatch from Busan, @812filmreviews.com reviews SATOKO ALWAYS, THE FIRST TASTE OF LONELINESS, & SHAVING:
“This is the worst in the series since V/H/S: VIRAL."
@briantallerico.bsky.social reviews V/H/S: MIXTAPE:
“[This] is an alienating, dull, washed‑up‑on‑arrival adaptation that never seems to justify its existence."
@rendy_jones reviews TREASURE ISLAND: www.rogerebert.com/reviews/trea...
“The reality [this film] recreates points to a pre-social-media era when reinvention was truly plausible." Cortlyn Kelly reviews CALIFORNIA SCHEMIN’:
"This sweet, hopeful film can’t be ignored."
@alishamgl.bsky.social reviews BIG GIRLS DON’T CRY:
“It wants to be a big slab of red meat for the action crowd but comes across as pure gristle."
@petersob13.bsky.social reviews THE BEAST:
wrote a little bit about AT NIGHT, FOREIGN TRAVEL and JOY OF JOYS for @ebertvoices.bsky.social.
My first Busan International Film Festival (@busanfilmfest) is live on @ebertvoices.bsky.social.
In this one, I wrote about the lovely SATOKO ALWAYS, the epic THE FIRST TASTE OF LONELINESS, and the chaotic Korean horror film SHAVING.
"The film aims to bring to life the imagination a child brings to his toys, and it delivers with a welcome spirit and even a little sweetness."
