Upper West Side, Manhattan: the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan will screen Moonrise Kingdom on the big screen Aug 25 at 7 pm. The host, film producer & studio exec Ira Deutchman, invited me to attend & talk about it, which we'll do afterward. Ticket info is here: operations.daxko.com/online/5384/...

Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as Sam and Suzy, the young adolescent lovebirds who run away from their families in Moonrise Kingdom. Suzy is in the foreground in a red beret and holding a transistor radio. Sam is behind her in his trademark coonskin cap. In the background is a body of water, and in the deep background a bit of shoreline with visible trees and a sunset sky. They are in a boat, but the frame is cut off in a way that makes that hard to understand. Both are wearing life jackets and have determined expressions.

No more smart technology in the home. Let's have dumb technology. Dumb as a box of rocks technology. For example, a refrigerator that you just plug-in, and there's a little tiny dial inside to adjust the temperature.

A digital illustration depicting Peter Falk as Lieutenant Columbo in his signature rumpled raincoat, shown in profile looking to the right, nearly nose to nose with his basset hound, Dog, who is leaning out of the open window of a car looking back at the detective. A word balloon next to Columbo's head contains lettering reading 'Maybe it will happen today'

HR and finance are now self check-out, but the printers don’t work and a kid sprayed “67” on the scanner in crazy string

I can't think of another significant American political publication that inadvertently proves almost every day that horseshoe theory is valid

Hey, everybody has a moment where their emotion gets better of them, and that's why it's important to have third parties looking out for you, so thank you

It does jump out at me on days like this, however, where a young artist dies and there isn't a 10,000 word Wikipedia article that everybody can rewrite for "quick reaction" pieces, and the one guy who could've done something really stunning got laid off by executives who don't even like journalism

@mattzollerseitz.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 9:33 PM

You're right, I'll post about it again in a couple of days.

Haven't seen Other Mommy yet, but I'm not at all surprised that there was big demand for it. The trailer was creepy as shit, and Chastain is 100% committed to genre work.

Hey California! Be careful this election because the big money creeps are trying to trick you (again).

There's a trap on your ballot in California. Here's how to get past it.
1. Prop 40: 250 billionaires pay with they owe so hospitals, schools, and food assistant survive the federal cuts. Vote yes.
2. Props 41 and 42: paid for by billionaires to cancel prop 40. Vote no.
3. Tell one person, because the confusion is the plan.
Yes I'm 40. No on 41 and 42.

“you’re mad at the firefighters who are just sort of standing around and mildly criticizing the burning building? why do you love fire so much?”

I kinda love the idea of someone's night being ruined cause all the KY Jelly in the UK had been bought up to be used on the set of ALIENS.

That runaway-truck comparison is dead-on. First Man makes spaceflight feel less like triumph and more like barely surviving something impossible.

I understand the tendency, because I occasionally succumbed to it circa 2016–20, but the genre of "you're criticizing a sitting Democrat, you must love fascism" is totally useless and needs to go away

My kid has started a Letterboxd list called Killer Sweaters for films where the killer wears a great sweater and they've asked me to throw it out to Bluesky for more because "that's the kind of thing those weirdos like to do"
