I'm happy to share some good news: I finished my PhD after many great years at
@molgen.mpg.de
Next, I am starting my own group on AI for Biology at @mdc-berlin.bsky.social as an Independent Fellow. I will continue my work on designing biology-inspired AI models for gene regulation and single cells.

Plants balance iron and immunity at the cell surface. Our new paper reveals how ubiquitin reorganizes the receptor SRF3 to coordinate both, and how this co-ordination works. Huge shoutout to Matt Platre who spearheaded and drove this tour de force! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

What a talk 🌱! @tolgaboz.bsky.social Tolga visited us at the University of Cologne to speak about “Decoding immune recognition and pathogen evasion in plants” hosted by our @sfb1403.bsky.social. So glad to have had you here, Tolga! #PlantBiology #PlantImmunity

🎉 The Perutz is delighted to announce that Alba Diz-Muñoz will join the institute as a new group leader in 2027! Currently at @embl.org Heidelberg, Alba investigates how mechanical forces at the cell surface shape cell division, migration and differentiation ➡️ tinyurl.com/6mvhj8n5

Happy to share my PhD work on the regulatory mechanism of E3 ligase RNF213! RNF213 is not a monomer, but a dimer that switches between inhibited and activated states in an ATP-dependent manner. We tracked the activation mechanism and showed how disease mutations can destabilize the inhibited state.

could not be prouder of lillie and the fantastic story she uncovered - from a giant E3 ligase with an unexpected dimer switch to moyamoya mutations that hijack its regulation. a beautiful PhD project, full of surprises and scientific creativity doi.org/10.64898/202... - bsky.app/profile/lill...

Most animal species pack sperm DNA with protamines instead of histones. Protamines are essential for male fertility. They are among the fastest-evolving genes in animals. That makes little sense. We think we know why, in a new paper led by @ching-hochang.bsky.social. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
