The slender crescent Moon brightly lit in a black sky, surrounding the lower half of the night side of the Moon from below. The whole Earth facing side of the Moon is visible, the night portion lit by sunlight reflected off the Earth. To the right of the Moon, near the edge of the frame is a faint star, 58 Leonis, shining at mag 4.81. Another, even fainter star, HD 95899 of magnitude of 7.22, sits under the crescent.

This is tonight's moon (on the left, almost full) with one of the pictures from four+ weeks ago (on the right, just past full).

It is interesting how different some of the surface features are because of the lighting angle...

Two images of the moon are shown, the one on the left is slightly darker, and its lower left edge is not very well list. The one on the right is slightly brighter, and its upper right edge is not very well lit.
