A vast sheet of #VolcanicRock in the #Andes has preserved clues to a buried landscape that existed 22 million years ago, according to a new study led by Dr Byron Adams and Dr Frances Cooper (UCL Earth Sciences @es-ucl.bsky.social): www.ucl.ac.uk/news/2026/se...

Parinacota and Pomerape volcanoes surrounded by ignimbrite deposits. These young volcanoes lie just to the east of the study area in the modern volcanic arc and sit atop ignimbrite deposits similar to those in the study. Credit: Frances J. #Limpets cling to ancient #VolcanicRock along the #OregonCoast at #LowTide. There wasn’t much color in the original shot, and going #monochrome enhanced the #texture . #RockinTuesday #TidesOutTuesday #ClassicMono #Macro #PNW #ECK #GoOutside #Breathe #Notice #KeepGoing

A monochrome shot of a collection of tiny, striped limpets gathered on rough, wave-hewn, dark gray basaltic rock, along with a few scattered barnacles. Not sure what kind of limpets they are, as I still need to run this through iNaturalist. They may not all be the same kind, either, but they look like it. The limpets are like irregular pyramids with their tips all on one side or the other with ridges going from the base to the top, and stripes doing the same thing, going from the base of the shell to the top of each shell.
