It was a privilege to join the community for the raising of the Mi’kmaq Grand Council flag and to reflect on the Peace and Friendship Treaties and the relationships they represent.

It was a privilege to join the community for the raising of the Mi’kmaq Grand Council flag and to reflect on the Peace and Friendship Treaties and the relationships they represent.
#October 1st is Treaty Day in Nova Scotia, as well as the start of Mi’kmaw Heritage Month.
Nova Scotia is bound by the treaties of Peace and Friendship. Treaties are solemn agreements that set out long-standing promises, mutual obligations and benefits for both parties.

October 1 is Treaty Day in Nova Scotia. In 1986, Mi’kmaq Grand Chief Donald Marshall Sr. called on Mi’kmaw people to observe the date each year in recognition of the treaty relationship between the Mi’kmaq and the Crown.
