Both the use and origin of these glyphs is uncertain but what is certain is they look nothing like European writing systems.

October 1 is Treaty Day in Nova Scotia. In 1986, Mi’kmaq Grand Chief Donald Marshall Sr. called on Mi’kmaw people to observe the date each year in recognition of the treaty relationship between the Mi’kmaq and the Crown.
