After spending the night photographing the stars at Mount Rainier, I got up early for sunrise at Reflection Lakes.

The water was nearly still, with a thin layer of mist drifting across the lake. The first sunlight was beginning to reach the trees and foreground grasses.

Wednesday morning on the south side of Mount Rainier, I found one of the first strong patches of fall color I’ve seen this year.

What caught my eye was how the red and orange foliage covered the hillside, standing out against the green evergreens behind it.
