On my way back from #MigFest I stopped at RSPB Blacktoft Sands on Monday. Not much in flower there, but I did see plenty of Prickly Sow-thistle. #WildflowerHour

A large yellow flower shaped rather like a dandelion.

Last weekend I was at #MigFest getting all excited about migrating Wheatears. Then today I went to the football at Royal Wootton Bassett and saw a migrating Wheatear sat on the cricket field! This is Northern Wheatear, the only one that lives in the UK. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #UKWildlife #birds

A pale brown bird with a black tail sitting on a fence. Its wings are folded over the white rump from which the species gets it name.

Just home from another amazing Spurn Migration Festival #Migfest Some great vismig, brilliant presentation by Mark Constantine & Magnus Robb, masterclasses, talks, social, pub time. Big shout to the Spurn Ladies who provided fab food and drink throughout. Many thanks to all the organisers and vols.

#Migfest was a blast as always, and an honour to be a finalist of MGSYB. Too many people and birds to mention, so my top 3: SEOs hunting, male Black Red and some very obliging Sanderling, latter 2 down the point #BirdSky #Birds #Photography #Nature #Wildlife #UkBirding @spurnbirdobs.bsky.social

The Russian Vine really was very big. #WildflowerHour #Migfest

A large plant growing as a clump on a grassy sea defence. It has a large number of small white flowers.

Should I or shouldn't I - oh go on then - wait for me! Scaup at Spurn today #Migfest #yorkshirebirding #ukbirding

This would be a candidate for #FavouritePlant despite not officially being a thistle, but actually it's a normal weekly #WildflowerHour sighting - Perennial Sow-thistle in a road verge at Spurn today during #Migfest.

A rather shaggy large yellow flower with lots of small petals.

Mandatory Fleabane photo for #WildflowerHour - by the scrape in North Field at Spurn during #Migfest today. Nice to have some sunshine at the end of a weekend when the weather wasn't ideal for bird migration - lots on the move today.

A yellow flower shaped like a daisy with more petals.

Today I was at Spurn for the always-wonderful #Migfest and I was present when their first Pink-footed Geese of the winter flew over on arrival from colder climes. It is now officially winter in the UK as far as the #birds are concerned. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #UKWildlife

Against a background of clear blue sky a skein of about 70 geese fly in a slightly ragged v formation, high above the photographer.
