That time again - Port Solent (top of Portsmouth Harbour) WeBS by bus! The gulls were joined by singles of Mute Swan, Little Egret, and Great Crested Grebe.

This late Cuckoo has been at Low Newton for the last few days. A fearless juvenile, more concerned with finding caterpillars than the people stood nearby watching it. At one point it landed right at my feet to pluck a caterpillar out of the grass, amazing !
Thousands of Barnacle Geese pouring north past Low Newton this afternoon. In amongst them a leucistic bird and a Ruddy Shelduck !
Despite the blue skies and westerlies a few birds were arriving this morning, 2 Brambling, 2 Chaffinch and 4 Siskin in off the sea + 6 Wheatears between Football Hole and Low Newton. Whooper Swans were on the move, 40+ south, 1 north + the Cuckoo was still at Low Newton
Chinstrap Penguins have declined markedly & rapidly as climate change warms the oceans & disrupts their food supply.
Yet RSPB, BirdLife, British Birds etc, still support & promote a Birdfair that sells ultra high carbon tours to Antarctica.
The time for change has long passed.

For today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme #BlueSkies; any bird against a blue sky.
Here are a Bee-Eater, a kestrel and a buzzard.

PS fun Kent factoid. Beeching one of the two most famous people born on the Isle of Sheppey (right up there alongside Rod Hull).
Hobbies? Not a rail enthusiast, didn't like sport. But really enjoyed the countryside.
(Ah, if only he'd tried #lowcarbonbirding the n Kent marshes by train 😉)
Returned to Titchfield Haven after a couple of weeks break. Trickles of Meadow Pipits, Skylarks and hirundines overhead - the latter swirling over the river! View from the new VC is pretty good, and turned out nice once fog cleared #LowCarbonBirding #PWC2026
A train trip to and cycle back from Dawlish W today. Highlight was fishing Osprey off the Warren. 25+ R Plover, 4 Grey Plover, 2 Sand T, Med Gull, 5+ Sanderling & 3 Swallow. Marsh Garrier, Kingfisher and 13 Cattle Egret #LowCarbonBirding . More on Devon birds www.devonbirds.org/bird-sightin...
Had a walk around the patch yesterday, still loads of continental Song Thrushes about. At the bird crops, no sign of the Little Bunting but some lovely views of Reed Bunting. 3 Yellow-browed Warblers and a Brambling at the Tin Church.

With a beak, one can tap, call out, sing, catch things, and look good like these five guys.
Unexpected bird of the day - JAY in off the sea ! I nearly missed it too, it was flying behind me, managed to grab a pic of its arse as it flew off inland. Only my third ever patch Jay, regular a few miles inland but rarer than Pallas's Warbler here !
Ein singendes Rotkehlchen für euch.
A singing Robin for you.

Did find one the nastiest lengths of cycle path I've seen. There are hidden tribes down some of those ruts.
If I see a library, I go in and support.
Spotted a bit on #LowCarbonBirding by #train up on station notice board 👍
Even an old map of the SECR up of the auto doors of the Int'l station☺️
Who needs a Siberian thrush when you can have (inland) garden ✅ Great Black Backed Gull 😊 #sussexbirding #lowcarbonbirding roll on October!
Nice finish to the afternoon listening to a Yellow-browed Warbler, found earlier by James Hutchison at Milton CP. My third in Cambs, all by bike. Hope it stays and I can see it next time! #LowCarbonBirding

any bird captured with a soft, muted or blurry background,
Let me go with a goldfinch, a redbacked shrike, a black redstart and a blackbird.
Rather crappy pic (250 m range across the Tyne) of an odd graellsii Lesser Black-back Gull (unless it's something else!) with definitely pink legs (no hint of yellow!) at Elswick on Saturday morning for #SuperSeabirdSunday

2026 green patch yearlist thread, 26 September; #126 with this Garganey at Swalla, found by SPP. Scarce on the patch in recent years, my first since May 2022; before that, they used to be near-annual.
