Sums up my view. Everyone wins with #BikeLanes. They make it easier for drivers to leave the car at home, reducing traffic on already clogged roads. They also provide more structure (& rules) for cyclists, some of whom behave just as badly as the drivers we complain about. #ldnont #onpoli #cdnpoli

I fear if far-right #KenSim gets voted back in, he'll probably try to do this in Vancouver.

Vancouver would have riots &/or 24/7 Critical Mass in response, tho.

Guys! #ABQUrbanist released a great clip on why we spend money on bike lanes.

Mark my words: Cro-magnon Premier #DougFord is about to discover that sending in workers to destroy existing, perfectly good, fully built & paid for infrastructure for no good reason is a really, really, REALLY bad look. #DougFord #onpoli #BikeLanes #cdnpoli www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

#Canada: land where you can legally run a freight train through the downtown of a significant city at rush hour - inconveniencing thousands of ppl - but #BikeLanes are the “problem.” ( The train tracks are over a kilometer away)

Traffic backed up in the right lane and light traffic in the left.

New York City voters will decide on five proposed changes to the City Charter in the November 3, 2026 election. They cover public-space permissions, city contracting, street projects and city property, building permits, and financial reserves. Each question is a separate yes-or-no decision—not an all-or-nothing package. [haitiantimes](https://haitiantimes.com/2026/09/26/nyc-5-ballot-proposals-election-day-2026/)

The image you shared is **advocacy**: it urges a “yes” vote on all five. It identifies the general subjects, but leaves out some important changes to public hearings and City Council oversight. Here is a more neutral explanation based on the city’s published ballot questions and the commission’s report. [nyc](https://www.nyc.gov/assets/charter/html/coge-adopted-final-report-2026.html)

## 1. Public-space approvals

### What would change?
This proposal would simplify permissions to use public streets and sidewalks for features such as accessibility ramps, planters, benches, and outdoor cafés. These permissions are called “revocable consents”—the city can withdraw them. [nyc](https://www.nyc.gov/assets/charter/html/coge-adopted-final-report-2026.html)

The amendment would:
- Remove mandatory public hearings, while retaining opportunities for community input.
- Remove the City Council’s power to disapprove sidewalk-café applications.
- Combine sidewalk and roadway outdoor-dining applications into a single process and modernize public-notice requirements. [nyc](https://www.nyc.gov/assets/charter/html/coge-adopted-final-report-2026.html)

### What do yes and no mean?
- Yes: Adopt the streamlined approval process.
- No: Keep the existing process, including mandatory hearings and Council review of sidewalk cafés. [nyc](https://www.nyc.gov/assets/charter/downloads/pdf/2026/appendix_a_poposed_ballot_questions_20260723.pdf)

### What should voters weigh?
The intended benefit is faster, less expensive approvals for businesses and property owners. The tradeoff is that …

GeoStreetMaps went up Keith Road / 13th Street in August. Much improved since I first moved to #NorthVan, but still needs more work, especially east of St Andrews (a sharrow).

When is a decision actually a decision?

If every election reopens what was already planned, approved and built, are we governing — or just endlessly revising the same city? buff.ly/QwjEGpF

For multiple reasons, global interest in #bikeriding (not motorcycles) has increased. Miles of dedicated #bikelanes, some offering not much protection from huge SUVs, have been created. Trump doesn’t like them because they take space from vehicles & has called them #DEI.

Well done! 👍

✅Increased traffic
✅Decreasing local business revenue
✅Higher healthcare costs
✅Worst mental health
✅Less productive workforce
✅Lower physical activity
✅Higher risk of collisions
✅Increased carbon emissions

These are some of the negative consequences to be expected from removal of #bikelanes

Bloor Street #RoadSafety upgrades help everyone stay alive! #BikeLanes are part of a #SafeStreetSystem:

This lovely old couple can now cross 2-lanes of traffic.

Before they would cross 4-lanes of faster moving motor vehicles

Now THIS is a righteous bike lane! It does not slow down car traffic, unlike bike lanes found on the right side of streets and roads. And the sidewalk is wide enough to allow separate space for pedestrians and bicycles. #BikeLanes
