And King from Roncesvalles to Strachan would be a meaningful connection between Parkdale and downtown.
Obviously, yes.
"Sarkaria also said secondary streets, such as King Street and College Street, would be better alternatives for the bike lanes". King Street? Secondary?? With all respect, we're seriously questioning whether the minister has seen any of these Toronto roads with his own eyes.
"just"
"But nobody bikes in Toronto 6 months a year"
"A feature, not a bug"
🤔
Back in fall 2024, Toronto City Council voted to express its opposition to Bill 212 and "the removal of City infrastructure approved by its democratically elected City Council" 21-4. This isn't just about bike lanes. It's about standing up for local democracy.
Ask Stantec how well it went the last time around.
"Michael Longfield, head of the advocacy group Cycle Toronto, said he’s 'outraged but not surprised' by the decision. ... Longfield, who challenged the removals in court, said his lawyers are still reviewing the latest decision and may appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada."
It’s hard enough for cities in Canada to do smarter things given how often bad city leaders hurt their own cities. But it’s extra infuriating watching awful provincial premiers sabotaging cities by ripping out good things they FINALLY managed to achieve. Premiers should not have that power, period.
"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk…” One of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen any politician do to any city.
Whatever happened to the notion that conservatives cared about fiscal responsibility?
Doug ford is a joke of a premier who only cares about hurting Toronto. Reminder: the lanes were voted on by council (3 times!) and the removal is happening during an election
"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk, and there is no network of side streets that could replace these lanes."
Thank you for speaking out, @mikeschreiner.bsky.social . This isn't just a downtown issue. The Ford government's ongoing obsession with Toronto is hurting all Ontarians.
Tuesday will be a sad day for Ontario. Ford's government is taking us backwards, spending millions taking away bike lanes in Toronto when people across Ontario desperately need money for hospitals, housing, schools and infrastructure.
Notice of construction along Bloor Street West between Clissold and Royal York. Taken from Reddit user T-DogSwizle. The start of a colossal waste of $48M that will not address traffic congestion and will put people's lives at risk.
