This is a crested Mexican Fence Post cactus. The crested stem on the right was small but very unique when my wife found it. So, it was a pleasant surprise when the three standard looking stems on the left popped up this year. Love when that happens! 🌵

When I was planning the rock garden, I knew this area would get all day sun. So I only planted aloes and cactus that could tolerate the hottest summer days. I still lost a couple younger cactus, but the rest have done well. 🌵

I planted a small Mexican lime #cactus (Ferocactus pilosus) years ago and this is its first time blooming. The other flowers are California fuchsia (Epilobium canum), a favorite native of our hummingbirds that seeds freely and blooms when many other locals have finished up.

The best of times! 🌞

I've got more Frailea plants with big yellow buds but I'm not sure we're going to get a sunny enough day for them to actually open. I've moved them to the front garden where they'll get more sun just in case. Frailea gracillima grown from seed a few years ago. #frailea #cactus #GardensHour #cacti

I got to see sunset, then sunrise at Saguaro National Park along with some birds. #saguaronationalpark #cactus #sunrise #sunset
