Sedge hunting in spring is very much a favourite part of the botanical season, and there are several (many) favourite plants here, especially Carex elongata 💚

It was a pretty good year for Bird's-nest Orchids in Cumbria. Quite a few seen in this woodland back in May and June.

These two.
Last and first orchids of the year.
There's something so unreal about Bladder Campion, a bunch of exploding mini-balloons that makes them my #FavouritePlant for #WidlflowerHour
For the past few years, in April, I've been going to Burroughs Wood near Ratby in Leicestershire. Carpets of Bluebells. Lots of Spring flowers, butterflies, birds...

#WildflowerHour A #favouriteplant of mine, abundant on my walks, is Herb-Robert, Geranium robertianum. After the drought this one, full of rich colour, straggles along a hedgerow near Monmouth.
In second place, my 2026 #wildflowerhour #favouriteplant is Green-winged #Orchid.
The flowers are endlessly variable & so beautiful. Being surrounded by so many, with a great sea view, in the glow of the evening sun is just heavenly.
I am so lucky to live near by and I can't wait for next year. 😍
My #FavouritePlant of all the wildflowers I've spotted this year has to be this wild marsh orchid I saw earlier in the summer 🌱
#WildFlowerHour My #FavouritePlant of 2026 was a beautiful display of Dark Red Helleborines (Epipactis atrorubens) at Bishop Middleham Quarry in July. Something I had been looking forward to for several years. #DurhamFlora
Inspired by a field visit, I planted Common Fleabane for pollinators. Bullseye! 🎯
Wild bees, hoverflies and butterflies flocked to its flowers. A #favouriteplant for this week’s #WildflowerHour.
It’s hard to choose a #FavouritePlant of the year, but I was excited to find what turned out to be Mousetail, Myosurus minimus, flowering under shrubs at Ely Leisure Village, a new one for me. #WildflowerHour
Possibly my #FavouritePlant this year, Yellow Centaury, Cicendia filiformis #WildflowerHour
Another #wildflowerhour #FavouritePlant was this Smooth Rupturewort Herniaria glabra I found in a planter in the centre of Ballater, Aberdeenshire in August. Undoubtedly an inadvertent introduction, just goes to show that anything can turn up anywhere. @bsbibotany.bsky.social
And, of course, Beggarticks Bidens frondosa, today’s specimens at Bradford-on-Avon Wharf on the K&A canal, on lock gates and in canal walls. Still a #FavouritePlant despite becoming common as muck locally! #WildflowerHour
Experiencing the carpets of wild garlic on Ashford Hangers at dawn was undoubtedly a #FavouritePlant moment from this #WildFlowerHour year

Herb Robert and Wood Speedwell are some of my favourite plants that I've seen so far this year! #FavouritePlant #WildFlowerHour I saw these during May, before the heatwaves.
My #favouriteplant has to be this Deadly Nightshade. Memorable because a) it was the first time I'd seen it locally and b) it was the evening of the partial solar eclipse. I spotted it as we walked up through woodland on the north side of the South Downs, south of East Chiltington #wildflowerhour
This would be a candidate for #FavouritePlant despite not officially being a thistle, but actually it's a normal weekly #WildflowerHour sighting - Perennial Sow-thistle in a road verge at Spurn today during #Migfest.
