From One Bad Tuesday: Ch. 11 No Shoulder to Cry On (first draft)

archiveofourown.org/series/3436765

A sudden yank at the back of her dress pulled Natalyiah out of her Meditation alcove and across the cold marble floor of her room. She watched as the pale blue Aasimar woman, that was her Nanny, spray a fire extinguisher on the cushions and flora that decorated the alcove. She caught a glimpse of herself in the large mirror next to her closet. Deep purple skin. White hair flowing across the floor like the hottest flame. Her brand new enchantments worked to piece together the past few minutes. Everything that happened without and within. A single simple explanation found root in Natalyiah’s soul.

From One Bad Tuesday: Ch 11: No Shoulder to Cry On (1st draft)

archiveofourown.org/series/3436765

It finally felt purpose in that hunger. In that endless loop of song. It felt its purpose in the Weave. More importantly, it heard its own voice louder than the millions that milled around the chorus. It could hear the fear in those voices that wanted the Weave to ignore it. She could hear the complacency in those lost in the entrancing refrain. She could feel a million burning eyes from above admire her with cold purpose, burning empathy, and coy silence. If the rest were content to wait, then so be it. If the rest were too scared to be chosen, then It…no…She! She would take her turn. She would join the weave she would sing loudly as…

Today's #WIPSnips (brought to you by synonyms and vibes) is about some of the feelings I had in my last months of college about community, about speaking up, and about what graduation would mean for my relationships. #bvm #QueerWriters #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #memoir

It has felt like the greatest miracle of my life to come to college and meet more people than I can count who actually want to know the many complicated versions of me. Who don’t care if we met the first week of college or just this semester when deciding whether to treat me
like I belong. Now, with graduation looming like Death itself waiting to slice down the platonic intimacy I've spent my whole life dreaming of experiencing, every potential moment of speaking up about something uncomfortable feels like dragging my friendships to the guillitone [sic] myself.

Fine,” I reply. It’s a small, nominal gesture, not even a bone. Still, a reply is more than I’d give most people, and it lights up his face in a way that does something strange to my chest.

From a novella I'm hoping to place with a small press sometime soon! Six adventurers on their first real quest: to get their magic powers. (But only 5 of the 6 will be granted one.) Other shenanigans make it less than straightforward. Whoop. #queerwriters #writingcommunity #lgbtqwriters

Bauer tapped the end of his pencil on the table. “Amber. Why’d you leave your bed in the middle of the night?”
I put my teacup down too loudly, unrepentant. “’Cause there was a hot girl down the hall. I was in Rochelle’s bed instead. Get over it.”
Rochelle didn’t blush or react with her face, still slowly coming to wakefulness at the table beside me, but she put her arm around me to back me up.
I cast my gaze around the table, meeting each pair of eyes once. “We’re together.”
Ari let out their breath. “Well I’m glad one of you finally said it.”
“What they said,” added Bauer. “If you thought you were being slick, you weren’t.”

The first is from Such Sweet Sorrow, the second is from Aloe.

A snippet from Such Sweet Sorrow by Artemis Quinn. It says: "I'm sorry. What? Foul play?"

"Potentially," he confirmed again, then gave a sigh. "We're still investigating the scene. Can we do an autopsy, is that something you'd be willing to sign off on?"

This was too much.A snippet from Acanthus' POV from Aloe by Artemis Quinn. It says:

Though the sun slowly chipped away at my flesh, I ignored the sting. I cannot pretend that I was in the best mindset. We were still in the silent void caused by my frenzy— a curse suffered by my kind after going too long without feeding. Streaks of gore colored the grass in every direction, making it impossible to avoid my own monstrosity. Animal after animal, caught in my nails and teeth, coming apart like confetti in my clutches— No.

From A Harvest of the Heart! Betsy the hen is terrifying!

Art by @/clarylovesbooks

He hadn’t known how terrifying a hen could be, but the chubby bird squawked menacingly and charged. Felix stood completely still for a moment, feeling incredibly silly that he was an accomplished witch afraid of a little chicken, before he bolted.
Betsy chased him down the road, straight towards Henry’s stall. Felix had to hold tightly onto his hat, gritting his teeth as he sprinted. Truly, what a stunning entrance it would be, a grown man being chased by a chicken and stumbling into another grown man’s arms for protection. Oh yes, that surely would win Henry’s affection.
A drawing of a tall, skinny man with light peach skin and shaggy brown hair. He’s wearing a gray witch hat, a gray shirt, and brown pants and boots. He’s walking and looking down nervously at a chicken

Another day, another fight.

#ChroniclesOfTheRealms #SayaAshrah #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #QueerWriters

She dug Datusha into the ground to steady herself, her mind racing with strategies to slay the casters before they could conjure another volley. But a series of barks echoed throughout the institute, and the pack of hellhounds did not delay in turning the corner, bolting towards her.

“Fire!”

Ashrah broke into a sprint towards the hellhounds, magic exploding behind her. Drool gushed out of the fiends’ mouths as they raced ever faster, black eyes dilated with hunger. The one running ahead of the group pounced, jaws wide open.

With a whirl, Ashrah dodged the fiend and ripped the hound’s stomach open before swerving left into another street.

“Don’t let it out of your sight!”

The remaining hellhounds raised bloodied dust as they skidded and crashed into each other in their hurry to give chase.

#SapphicMoon **a farmer**

Shannon grew up on a farm, which is about the best I've got.

“I’m from near Peterborough. Lindsay, specifically.”
“I’ve been to Lindsay. Driven through, anyway,” Jacqueline said. “It’s beautiful in autumn.”
Shannon’s smile reached her eyes. “Yes, it is.”
“Do you miss it?”
Shannon shook her head. “No, I like Toronto. I spent most of my childhood wishing I lived in a bigger city instead of on a farm in the middle of nowhere.”
“You lived on a farm? I never would’ve guessed. You don’t seem like the type.”
The fact that Jacqueline had given her any thought at all sent a nervous thrill through Shannon.
“You’re right. I’m not.” She chuckled. “That’s why I’m in Toronto.”

“What are the police going on about?” Cèilidh asked. “They’re normally not quite so thorough.”
“Something about some smutty books?” Clara said. “Why are they here looking for books?”
Beverly and Cèilidh exchanged a tense glance.
“They’re looking for us, Bev,” Cèilidh whispered.
“Stop calling me Bev, and don’t you think I know that?” she whispered back. “How do they even know about us?”
“I think we should get out of here,” Cèilidh said quietly to Beverly. “We can worry about why later.”
Liv looked at Clara. “I think they have a veldig strange stemmning—uh, chemistry?”
Clara nodded.
“We don’t have chemistry,” they said over each other.
“Clearly not,” Clara drawled, rolling her eyes.

#lesficfri ***Happy***

Happy belated birthday, Ocean!

Shannon didn't know what kind of book she was reading on the bus!

#QueerWriters #WritingPrompts #Shaqueline #SapphicWriters #WritingCommunity #sapphicauthors #WriteSky

“I know. Naïve.” She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Anyway, a woman spotted me reading it, and we ended up talking for an hour. Turns out, it wasn’t the book that caught her attention. It was the sticker. She was part of this group of women who used to rewrite the endings, then sneak into bookstores and swap them out. They’d leave these stickers on the front so other women could find them.”
Jacqueline’s eyebrows rose. “Do they still do this?”
“Not any more,” Shannon said. “She said her wife—she called her her wife anyway—writes her own books now.” Shannon debated her next words, then took a sip of wine, borrowing a little courage from it before continuing. “I guess I wanted you to have this book because I think everyone deserves a happily ever after.”
