Also, in addition to the wonderful slow living ethos, I read today that we import about 70% of our apples in the UK now. 70%! How wonderful to grow your own apples so you're not adding to those food miles.

@greenjimll.bsky.socialI keep my apples in one of the salad crisper drawers in the fridge. They can last in there for many months and are conveniently in the kitchen where the rest of the pie making ingredients and equipment are located. šš

@walkaboutsverse.bsky.socialGood to hear native wildflowers being championed on #GardenersWorld 9/10/2026 - the native flora that our native fauna EVOLVED with; even on my small Juliet balcony, I'm growing English Ivy & nettles, & see plenty of bees, lady beetles, etc. More here - davidfranks.blogspot.com/2010/10/theo...

@greenjimll.bsky.socialUnfortunately all my apple trees, both in the back garden and at the allotment, aren't like Gala and did shed all their fruit back in August. No cider making this year! #GardenersWorld #ClimateChange

Barred Sallow

@greenjimll.bsky.socialWildflowers are important for invertebrates, but in turn those bugs are important for higher birds and animals. I'm at a planning meeting tomorrow for a event next Spring to encourage local folk to plant more wildflowers for insects to benefit Swift populations in the town. #GardenersWorld
