Nobody realised MMS.70 had been sunk. Her survivors were left clinging to wreckage for 12 hours until a local fishing boat rescued them. All the officers involved were heavily criticised, and were informed that they had 'incurred the Commander-in-Chief's displeasure'. #RoyalNavy #WW2 #NavalHistory

Subsequently, the name ‘Mikuma’ was given to the 4th ship of the Mogami-class escort vessels (FFM-4), which entered service in 2023; however, the name ‘Chikugo’ has not been passed on.
This may be because the name was adopted for a Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel (PM34).

The ships were from d'Estaing's fleet, which was known to be in the area. In her damaged state the Experiment was easily overtaken, and after a short exchange of fire she surrendered. The loss was very unfortunate as she was carrying money to pay the British army in Georgia. #RoyalNavy #NavalHistory
