Yves Saint Laurent’s debut of the safari jacket in 1968 signaled a shift toward utility that the bourgeoisie mistook for ruggedness. It was less about exploration and more about the commodification of colonial aesthetics for the Parisian sidewalk. #FashionHistory

Ok so I know these are not the correct berries but strawberries will have to do, courtesy of Mark Mooring’s 1942 evening dress. The rowan berries were out in all their glory this morning so Mooring’s beaded fruit works for Unsuitable Dog Walk Attire @metmuseum.org #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Here we have another of Grace Coolidge's 1920s dresses- this one of black velvet appliques on metallic threaded lace over a metallic colored underdress. The geometric shapes are quite Art Deco although also very romantic with the velvet roses. #Fashionhistory

Sometimes just a detail is enough to appreciate. This #1770s gold ribbed silk gown has quite a story from its many alterations, refashionings and later use as fancy dress but this point here is beautifully constructed, seams and sharp pleats and covered buttons all a-glow #VandA #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
