I’m not in the market for an #1880s evening dolman style evening mantle but if I were then how about this? The fabric is mesmerising and the trim effusive, a blend of grass blades and black lace in dizzying proximity. Compagnie Russe sold via #AugustaAuction #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

The names changed. The clothes changed. The customers changed. But 430 King's Road kept catching whatever London youth culture was becoming next.

I love this example of refashioning. Whilst the chopping of an 18th century man’s waistcoat might not be quite the thing today, it is a beautiful reimagining of a garment that retains its original details but wholly in the style of #1950s womenswear #museumatFIT #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Robe a la Française, Kunstmuseum den Haag, 1770

Stressful night, so what better way to relax than by finding a nice dress to write about. What I love about it - the beautiful colour fabric, the square neckline, and the little bows on the stomacher.

#fashionsky #fashionhistory #dresshistory

Museum photo of an 18th centre overdress and skirt. It is in pale blue silk with woven floral details throughout. The overdress consists in a bodice with a square neckline, past-the-elbow sleeves, and a possibly separate stomacher with white lace bows down the front of it. Its skirts fall to the floor over side panniers, and its open in front. This reveals a separate skirt in the same fabric, also full length. Lace engageantes (ruffles) are worn at the sleeve ends, almost reaching the wrists.

#Ootd is this 1948 dress. I may look like Dior, but this was made by the French Women's Tailoring Department, an atelier in Stockholm. They bought the patterns and rights to replicate haute couturier designs. This specific dress were commissioned by Irma Ulrich. #Fashionhistory
