I’d like to propose an autumn filled with plummy crushed velvet which feels entirely appropriate as summer has given way to chill September mornings here in the South West of England. It would feel like hoiking around your own cosy sofa. Late #1880s #museumatFIT #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

This is a gown I revisit every so often for its outrageously rich colour & extravagant silhouette. The early 1830s ballooning sleeve is a divisive detail, some people love it, others not so much. I am firmly in the love it camp precisely because they are so enormous #museumatfit #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

A lady in red with a great silken swirl of skirt to mark the day of Jacques Fath’s birth, this a cocktail dress designed in the early #1950s. The small black details punctuate the scarlet #museumatFIT #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
