Sometimes things don't quite work out as planned...
Another spell out at Griminish Point this morning produced at least 54 Leach's Petrels and 3 Sabine's Gulls amongst a nice variety of other stuff. #BirdingScotland #BirdingOuterHebrides

Seawatching in Angus AND Fife on the same day.
And then there were two! Watching the long-staying Pallid Harrier at Brow Marsh, Shetland last Thursday and delighted to find a second individual. Both birds put on a brilliant display as they glided around the marsh before going to roost. #BirdingScotland #UKbirding #RareBirdsUK #Birds #UKWildlife
I had a great few days on the Isle of May. The winds weren’t ideal but there were still some great birds to see.
Highlights were WT Sparrow, 2 Cory’s, LT Skua, Osprey, Wood Warbler and catching this Treecreeper.
It is completely different to the summer when I normally visit!
"🎶 I'm A Borby Bird, In A Borby World 🎶"
Robin (Erithacus rubecula) at Grimbister, #Orkney.
For today's #BirdOfTheDay alt theme of #Borbs; any bird that looks round, chubby, spherical etc.

Brevig seawatch today in a southerly gale and intermittent rain: 1 Cory's Shearwater (increasingly frequent on Barra these days), 22 Sooty and thousands of Manx Shearwaters all going south. The White-billed Diver did a fly-past as did the pictured White-tailed Eagle. #birdingscotland

"Pit Stop"
back in June, this racing pigeon and it's flying mate simultaneously hit my kitchen window. This one recuperated on the path for half an hour, while its pal did the same on the roof. Both flew off apparently unharmed 🤞

It felt like the first day of autumn at Girdle Ness in a strong southerly wind. Two Great Shearwaters went through, the second lingering to feed for 20 minutes. Also, 15 Sooty Shearwaters, 42 Manx Shearwaters, 11 Arctic Skuas, 5 Great Skuas.

And yesterday this astonishing Egyptian Nightjar near Roger Riddington’s garden. The table of European records is from Dutch Birding 41: 36-40 (2019). It is good to have a photographed modern British record. #BirdingScotland
