This atmospheric photograph was taken at Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin, Ireland, and has a dark, monochrome appearance that gives the scene a timeless, almost haunting quality. Dominating the foreground is a magnificent, mature evergreen tree. Its enormous, deeply textured trunk rises from the grass on the right before dividing into several substantial branches. One particularly large branch sweeps dramatically across the centre of the image, while countless smaller branches and dense, feathery foliage spread outward to form a natural canopy over the cemetery. The tree feels ancient and imposing, standing like a silent guardian over the graves below. Beneath it, a paved pathway curves through the cemetery. A simple wooden bench sits beside the path, offering a quiet place to pause and reflect. Beyond the tree are numerous ornate Celtic and traditional grave monuments, including several tall Celtic crosses decorated with intricate stonework. In the background stands an impressive Gothic-style cemetery building, with pale stone walls, pointed arched windows and decorative architectural details. The sky is heavily overcast, with dramatic clouds visible between the branches and monuments. The subdued sepia/grey tones enhance the sense of age, stillness and remembrance. Our tree is undoubtedly the focal point. Our photography shows a dramatic countryside scene deep in rural Ireland, with wide, gently rolling fields stretching towards the horizon. The foreground is bordered by a lush, slightly blurred hedgerow of grasses, wild plants and dense green bushes. Beyond it lies a vast golden-brown field of ripened crops, its gentle curves following the contours of the landscape. Scattered along the distant fields are mature Irish trees, standing individually or in small groups, with more hedgerows marking the boundaries between the farmland. The horizon is low and open, giving the landscape a wonderful sense of space and tranquillity. Above the fields is the dominant feature of the photograph. A magnificent, deep-blue sky filled with towering white and grey clouds. After today’s picture description, l have written a poem based on this capture. A striking black-and-white photograph captures three elongated leaves lying against a rough, textured stone surface. The leaves emerge from a single slender stem, spreading outward like the fingers of a hand. Two point upwards while the third curves gently to the right. Their surfaces are covered with dozens of water droplets, ranging from tiny beads to larger rounded drops. In the monochrome image, the droplets appear bright and silvery against the darker leaves, making them the most prominent feature of the composition. Fine veins run along each leaf, adding delicate detail and texture. The rough stone beneath provides a dramatic contrast to the smooth leaves and perfectly rounded droplets. Strong light and deep shadows give the photograph a quiet, almost sculptural quality. A simple moment in nature has been transformed into an intimate study of texture, light and water. Finally, today’s picture is finished with a simple white board frame. And now for my poem… I call it….After the Rain Three leaves rest upon the earth, holding the morning in their hands. Each droplet catches a fragment of light, a tiny world suspended in silence. The stone is ancient beneath them, rough and weathered, while the leaves remain delicate, their veins carrying the quiet story of life. Nature needs no grand canvas. Beauty can be found in a drop of rain, a trembling leaf, a moment after the storm. And for a little while, the ordinary becomes extraordinary, the earth glistening, the leaves breathing, and the world reminding us how beautiful it is simply to be alive.
