A golden bird perches on a branch with his back to the camera but his head twisted around to keep a watchful eye on the photographer. His thin, dark beak points upward and to the right. The bird's rump is lifted, exposing his yellow, stick-like legs and the underside of his bright gold tail feathers. His plumage is predominantly yellow-gold, with only lighter brown at his crown, in a stripe on either side of his eye, along the edges of his wings, and at the end of his tail feathers. The brown, lichen-covered branch that he sits on runs from the middle left of the frame to the bottom right of the frame. Below the branch, hangs a juicy blackberry. In the foreground on the bottom right are more dark berries, but they're blurred. The background is a dense tangle of thorny branches and wide, teardrop-shaped leaves in various shades of green.
