#GenHour I picked up one of the Pen & Sword Tracing Your Ancestors books for $0.50 and another for $0.99. Not many books in the series are downpriced, but it may be worth a look.

This may be more of interest to people who do Big Data work, but I'll tag this for #GenHour anyway. #genealogy

Future historians (of all kinds) may not have the information-rich census data we've come to expect.

#GenHour Spreadsheet users: if you get caught out by the newest upgrade for Windows 11, may I recommend LibreOffice Calc?

#GenHour This week Newspapers-dot-com had some good hits for my #OnePlaceStudy. Definitely recommend setting up alerts on newspaper sites if they offer that feature.

Hi #GenHour! What’s the story behind the name “Cally”? Join London historian Rob Smith for a 90-minute walk exploring the working-class history of Caledonian Road, from the Royal Caledonian Asylum to the factories of the Regent’s Canal.

Some parents had not yet decided on a name for their child when the the census came. Robert and Ethel Evans came up with the novel name 'XYZ' for their child. Elsewhere, parents were told they could use 'Baby' or 'Tootsie'! Find out more in 'A History of the Census Takers' - #GenHour #Ancestry

On a dark grey background, the book cover for 'A History of the Census Takers' and the words 'Discover More Stories...' Also in the frame is a clipping from the 1901 Census showing Robert and Ethel Evans including their children and young son XYZ Evans.

If you have your copy, let me know what you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts. 'A History of the Census Takers' - find out about the men and women who took the census and how your ancestors felt about them and the process of filling out the schedule. #Ancestry #Genealogy #GenHour

I've enjoyed the bitesized talks from @pharostutors.bsky.social this week. Snippets of inspiration from Ag Labs to Secretary Hand, Powerpoint family trees to Inquisitions Post Mortem.
