#AncestryHour I don't know if I can make the live event, but I hope to see the recording later on YouTube. Congrats again on the release of your book! I'm looking forward to reading it.

Really looking forward to #AATP26! See you there, at #GenHour on Thursday, or see you again next week for #AncestryHour.
#AncestryHour WDYTYA magazine shared a link to their guide on circus life this week, which reminded me of this startling discovery. l did not expect to find a relative who had gone away with the circus, nor did I expect what happened later.
#AncestryHour I encourage everyone who is stuck in their #FamilyHistory or #genealogy to take a break, find the local newspapers, and just read them to see what's happening in the places your people lived. You don't have to have a formally registered #OnePlaceStudy. Just have fun exploring.
#AncestryHour Yes, and sometimes with the plays you get a cast list so you can see who performed which roles.
I also like seeing how far news spread geographically, and in time. My farthest-out stories so far: a "150 Years Ago" column; USA news in papers from Yorkshire, & English news in NZ/AUS.
Hello #AncestryHour just to let you know I'm organising this free event to coincide with my book release. Hope you can join me.
One of my great-grandfathers played in an accordion band! Like you, this was a nugget gleaned from a newspaper article. It even lists some of the tunes that were performed. #AncestryHour
#AncestryHour You never know when some one-line story about a person visiting relatives will crack open a research problem, or confirm an analysis that you worked out the long way. I especially like description of events with out-of-town guests like anniversary parties. So useful for #FAN research.
#AncestryHour so many #genealogy and #familyhistory events! #AATP starts online tomorrow. I won't make the NZSG Auckland Family History expo this weekend, but making up for it here! Huguenot family history at SOG in London, 2 days at The National Archives. Next week APGs PMC event online too 🙌
#AncestryHour US historical newspapers, especially in the social news sections, can be full of things like this. Which club put on a show, who acted in a play, who was known for cooking at the clambake. I enjoy the accounts of market days and local fesivals in papers from England, too. 📰
#AncestryHour Lately I've been reviewing old research, looking for clues I may have missed in records already collected. I've also been searching newspapers, and have made a lot of little discoveries. One of my husband's great-grandfathers was known for his harmonica solos!
And for anyone else transcribing old documents, this newly published book from @federationfhs.bsky.social is excellent!
Hello, #AncestryHour. How is everyone keeping? At the weekend I had a lovely time at a #FamilyHistory show and met up with several genie friends. No big research discoveries here as I’ve been focusing more on my studies; my palaeography skills are slowly improving.

Just did a very quick search on FamilySearch to answer the question of "How many Hindley families lived in Sheffield Massachusetts?" and guess what I'm finding? No Hindleys or Handleys or anything really similar. I think I'll stick with my Yorkshire hypothesis for now.
I'm not sure that is an AI map, I think it is just two maps side by side, but the backgrounds have unfortunately blended together. Bad graphic design rather than slop? #AncestryHour
#AncestryHour Anyway, final parting thought of the day. When you're evaluating a family story as part of your #genealogy research, bear in mind that a relative of yours might have mixed up two similar-sounding places or people. There still might be a kernel of truth in there.
#AncestryHour I'm also getting bombarded by emails reminding me about the end of Webtember at Legacy Family Tree Webinars. Webinar marathons on Wednesdays. Of course most of the ones I wanted to see are tomorrow. But I have a membership.
#AncestryHour "Around 2,500 residents lost their homes as part of the flooding" according to Wikipedia's article.
Kind of big for a #OnePlaceStudy.
