We have a new book review up on our site this morning. Thanks to Leona Armstrong for reviewing Rita McCarthy's book on the County Clare Mother and Baby Home.
A terrible event & so sad to see children with my own surname anong the dead in Drumcollegher in 1926-Catherine McAuliffe)56) John McAuliffe(11) Mary McAuliffe(15)-Dr Kathleen Lynn, then a TD, wrote of her visit there after the fire to help as much as she could www.irishexaminer.com/news/munster...
You can really get a sense of how small the venue was. But it also allows people to sit and reflect. While in some ways it is a simple memorial it is also a poignant, powerful and well thought out design. A fitting tribute.
Visited Dromcollogher today to see the memorial to the victims of the fire. They are simple wooden benches laid out much in the same way as they would have been laid out on the night. Each one has plaque with the names of those that died.
Rough Draft vs Final Draft
In London for the @womenshistnet.bsky.social conference. I had a chance to visit @lselibrary.bsky.social exhibition marking 100 years of the Women's Library. The library proved invaluable in completing my PhD. Worth a visit if you are in London.
Great to catch in person. Enjoy Cork.
Thanks for an amazing key note. Good look with the research.

Definitely a book to get your hands on. Congratulations to all involved.
Professor emerita Bernadette Whelan spoke at Electric Picnic 2026, as part of a panel on āIreland and America from the 1920s to Trumpā organised by History Ireland Hedge Schools.
There are a lot of stories like yours. People who at the last minute decided not to attend that night. It must have been hard for them afterwards.
