In light of some magazines pulling scummy things on creators lately, I’m doing a little thread on short story rights. I don't want anybody getting taken advantage of. Also, if you're new, this stuff can be confusing!

Ah, loved this piece so much Angela!! the lines "time isn’t a wound so there’s no way to fix it" and "how sometimes we can hold a funeral for something that hasn’t finished dying" really got to me in particular..but yes, this poem has so many moments of thoughtful and powerful, emotional beauty

I have a new poem out in @uncannymagazine.bsky.social today! It’s my first new poem of the year.

“Butterfly Effect” is inspired by all the unfinished stories and all the things I wish we could take back.

Issue 3 is OUT NOW! We can't wait to share these amazing stories and poems with you 🪐🗡️

The issue opens with Madeleine Poole’s “Feral thing in a lightbox,” a bloody fairy tale about gender, want, and the girl in the wolf’s belly.

🐺 Read it here: othersidespec.com/pieces/feral...

Blurry orange background, text that reads:

Feral thing in a lightbox, by Madeleine Poole

When I was a little girl I was really a wolf
in a dress & red cape, holding her sweetbread

in a basket. Palms bristled, shape streamlined
for speed, muzzle stronger than she knows.

New story day, and it's a short one! “Ivan Ivanovich” is about spacecraft dummies & the illusion of safety & an adriftness that makes you feel far from your own self. Based on a real Soviet test flight mannequin from the '60s. In @othersidespec.bsky.social! 🧑🏼‍🚀

The cover of Otherside, issue 3. In shades of orange to yellow against a black background, a figure looks toward a grand stone structure with columns, a staircase, and two giant statues. There are leaning trees and what looks like wind or smoke. The issue is dated September 2026 and the contributors' names are listed in white at the bottom.A screengrab of the Otherside page hosting my short story, "Ivan Ivanovich." Otherside's illustrative purple banner is at the top, followed by the story's word count (1500 words) and the first three paragraphs of text.A photograph of the Ivan Ivanovich display at the National Air and Space Museum, sourced from Wikipedia. The mannequin is in the foreground wearing a helmet and orange flight suit.
