This study of 100 Norway #spruce trees found shallow, site-dependent roots, with #DBH as the best volume predictor for climate-adaptive #forest management.🌳

3Plants cool the land by releasing water. A global study for 1982–2024 found that both #climate variability and #vegetation greening contributed to this cooling, but climate variability played the bigger role, with clear regional differences.πŸ‘‡

Warmer weather affects pine forests differently. Tree rings from 32 sites in subtropical China linked warmth to faster Masson pine growth at northern sites. Heat limited growth at southern sites, while drought increasingly constrained central and southern trees.

#Squirrels may help shape where new trees grow. In a tropical #forest, more seedlings appeared 20 m from parent trees where squirrels stored nuts. Root pathogen damage did not vary with distance, suggesting seed movement may also shape the #pattern.🐿️

Flying #squirrels storing nuts 10–25 m away mimics conspecific negative density dependence, boosting seedling numbers and offering a new mechanism for tropical #forest #biodiversity maintenance.🌳

A greener #forest is not always healthier. Satellite observations in northern China found that forests later showing widespread #canopy decline had stronger growth but lower stability, suggesting favorable conditions and repeated #droughts may leave forests more vulnerable to future stress.🌳

Trees shape the ground beneath them. In 24 Belgian #forest plots, carbon storage varied with tree type. It was more closely linked to the chemical makeup of leaves and #soil acidity than to local #temperature and #moisture.🌳

Can #beetle tunnels make deadwood a better home? After 35 months, simulated tunnels increased the number and diversity of soil animals in Norway #spruce logs and benefited woodlice and millipedes, showing how small structural changes can create useful refuges.🌳
